After several decades of work in film and television, the renowned Mexican director George Fons this one died September 22. It was during the first minutes of the day that the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences (AMACC) announced the news through its Twitter account.
“Fons left us. AMACC embraces his family and the community for this loss. Director of emblematic films such as Red Dawn Y the alley of miracles, Fons led the renovation of the AMACC. Emeritus member of the same and Gold Ariel 2011. We are going to miss you, Jorge”.
So far the cause of death of the filmmaker is unknown.
Among his most emblematic films are masons (1976), miracle alleys (1995), The attempt (2010) and of course, Red Dawn (1989), a film that portrayed, through a fictional story, the events that occurred during the student movement of 1968. Red Dawn It became one of the most representative films in the national industry for being one of the first productions to criticize the Tlatelolco massacre. In 2018, Fons spoke for Milenio about his inspiration in social movements to make movies. He mentioned that Red Dawn faced various types of censorship and was canned for a long time. He also expressed his thematic ideas in case a film like that was made in these times.
“What narrates Red Dawn it is the tragedy: the most violent expression of the regime to repress. I would like to make a film where there are signs that the road is straightening out.
