The adventure of “Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door” is back, with graphic improvements and content that will make you enjoy this adventure even more, now for Nintendo Switch. It's been 20 years since the original release of this video game on the Nintendo GameCube and the wait was worth it.
The “Thousand Year Gate,” as some gamers say, quickly became legend, kept alive by the spoken word of fans. And so, as happened with SuperMario RPG, recently revived by Nintendo, fans have long clung to the hope that one day this door will open again and this tremendous title will return. Finally, that patience has paid off, since the remake (or rather re-edit) of “Paper Mario: The Millennial Door” for Nintendo Switch is the definitive version. And for those who didn't play the first one, because they probably weren't born yet, believe me, this is a great adventure.
We tell you more about the story
Remember that being a “Paper Mario” all the elements of the game are made of paper. And therefore, you must be attentive to its properties and how the paper “moves.” In GameCube it already provided a leap, with more advanced 3D levels than the previous generation at that time, and now it is a luxury.
This starts like this: Princess Peach sends a treasure map to Mario, but she ends up kidnapped (and this time it wasn't Bowser). Our dear Mario must recover the 7 star crystals to open the Millennial Door which is located in the basement of Villa Viciosa. Thus, we will rescue the princess.

The worlds, as usual, will be connected by pipes and Mario will make a curious group of friends along the way to complete this mission. Mario's “friends” in this adventure feel closer: the dubbing in Latin Spanish helped that.

Several hours of adventure
Whether you have played the GameCube version or not, here is some practical information. Paper Mario: The Millennial Door lasts a long time: at least 20 hours. If you play in calm mode and trying to complete it as much as possible, it will be about 30. There are side quests, but they are generally not worth much: simple missions where you return to previous areas, but with your new skills you can unlock something that you couldn't before. It reminded me of the Pokémon RPG games.
A no small detail is the “rhythm” of the game, something that is asked a lot on social networks, especially because of the fighting dynamics. It progresses well, it doesn't feel rushed, in the sense that there is still a lot to do stage by stage (unlike perhaps the Super Mario RPG). What yes, sometimes you feel that it takes too long, because there are MANY combats, but that contributes to having the game for longer.

Gameplay: the key to success
Playability is a key aspect, for this “pace of play” and in “Paper Mario: The Millennial Door”, it has always been enjoyable. This is because it has a combat system that continually grows and makes the game evolve as you progress: new attacks, special attacks or skills, etc. This reminded us of “Super Mario RPG” too. The allies that accompany Mario provide different actions, some more offensive than others, which can also be used both in combat and exploration and are key elements in your adventure.
A no small point of this re-edition is the contributions to realism provided by the Joy-Con controls. The vibration of the console achieves a more realistic and immersive effect than that of the GameCube: obviously, we are three generations away. Your hammer will feel heavier when it is more powerful, you will be able to feel vertigo when unstable ground wobbles and you will even feel that instability effect in your hands. There is more realism and immersion.

Let's talk about mechanics
Game mechanics are key in this saga. We already saw that many were stressed by the circles in “Paper Mario: Origami King”, but here, let's remember that we go back to simple. So don't worry, in general terms it has simpler mechanics, but just as entertaining.
This is combined with the special powers that you can use in your adventure, the attacks (with different mechanics to activate them) and pay attention to the mini-games. Here you will have many mechanics to try. You will be able to enjoy control to the fullest, whether with rhythm, aiming or by pressing a series of buttons. This is undoubtedly the most entertaining thing about the game, its large amount of content.
The game is full of memorable stories, believe me, the invitation is to discover every detail in every corner.

When exploring, each companion helps in a unique way: you can kick Koops' shell to press distant switches, while Yoshi significantly increases your speed and can flutter through spaces. A new feature in the remake lets you switch characters on the fly in the overworld, making some late-game puzzles that require a lot of partner switching much more streamlined. And there's a robust new hint system you can access at any time too. Ask your peers for help! Some quests are a little obtuse at times, such as when it's unclear who exactly you need to talk to to advance the story, so it's a good resource for figuring out how to proceed.
The revamped soundtrack is equally amazingwith excellent updated versions of the original tunes and new arrangements of location-specific battle themes.

In general
A great success to bring this story back. You will have to discover the details. But as a preview, we can conclude that it is a game that gives you many hours of entertainment, which The story is captivating, and you will take advantage of every button on your control.
The Nintendo Switch not only provides you with better graphics and great fluidity, but Listening to the improved soundtrack is a luxury, added to the “special effects” that you will feel through the joy-con. You can tell that it is a video game from the last stage of the Nintendo Switch, because despite being a re-edition, it makes the most of the console. More than recommended, a 9/10 because perhaps we would have liked even more additional content, but the video game is brilliant.
