The other, also 44, killed four people and injured two. She was a Native American and, according to The Violence Project, she was under investigation for embezzlement of federal loans intended for her tribe. On the day of the shooting, the tribal council had called a hearing to remove her from tribal lands.
The other two shootings involved a woman.
One of them, on December 2, 2015 in San Bernardino, California, killed 14 people and injured 22 others. The woman was from the Middle East, worked, and had no criminal history or diagnosed mental health problems.
In the other, on December 10, 2019 in New Jersey, four people died and three were injured. The woman was black, she also had no criminal record, she had been evicted from her house after failing to pay the mortgage and lived in a trailer with her partner, who also participated in the shooting.
According to data from The Violence Project, the shootings in which a woman participated took place at workplaces, government buildings and in stores.
Why are there so few female shooters?
There is no single explanation why far fewer women have committed shootings than men, since there is no single profile of shooters.
