Totoki’s career, however, has not been completely disconnected from the world of video games, as he also held management positions at GMO Gamespot, one of the most relevant video game distributors in Japan.
In his position as president and chief operating officer of Sony Group, Totoki was in charge of overseeing all of the company’s business verticals, including PlayStation, so he is not a person who is unfamiliar with the subject of gaming.
While Ryan was the person in charge of the announcements, Totoki was also relevant to PlayStation’s strategies. For example, he was responsible for Sony’s investment strategy in its next-generation console.
Likewise, he put the company’s focus on the purchase of different development studios, something that has meant nearly $5 billion for the company, which includes the inside of the company.
“The PlayStation business managed by SIE is an essential part of Sony Group’s entire business portfolio. “I will work closely with Jim to ensure our success and further growth,” Totoki said following Jim Ryan’s announcement.
