Spanish high-speed. That has meant AVE since its inception and as a registered trademark, Renfe wants to defend it tooth and nail against the advent of new operators that have entered to compete in our country in recent months.
The last blow of this controversy points to the media, as Renfe has protested through a press release to remember what is the correct use of the AVE concept and why his name should not be taken in vain.
The trigger was a breakdown on Wednesday, July 5, in a train of the French brand Ouigo, which suffered a breakdown for several hours that meant keeping almost 500 passengers trapped in a tunnel in Tarragona. Ouigo, owned by the French company SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français), is one more of these operators that have landed in the Spanish railway market and, where Renfe is aiming, to distinguish a product like AVE.
It was the media, in addition to the travelers, after addressing Renfe on social networks and by phone when confusing Ouigo with the AVE brand, Renfe recalling in its press release that it is an error in “believing that the Spanish brand it’s a generic defining all high speed that circulates in Spain, when it is not like that”.
With this intention, Renfe has also recalled that there are already three agents in the new Spanish rail market. On the one hand, Renfe with AVE and Avlo, while SNCF does the same under the Ouigo brand and Iryo also operates in our country, intervened by three companies such as Trenitalia, Globalvía and Air Nostrum.
Punctuated by the performance that some of these operators are giving and due to the identification of the high-speed concept in a generic way, Renfe recalls that AVE is a registered trademark in which “rail services provided by Renfe with a high level of quality and a specific commitment to excellence and punctuality” are identified.
For this reason, it invites users and educational media to understand that the AVE brand “after more than 30 years in circulation, cannot and should not be used as a generic term”, as Renfe explains that, for the moment, is the only operator of railway services with 100% Spanish capital In our country.
