We all like to think that our telephone company It is the fastest, most stable and cheapest in the place. But it doesn’t always rain to everyone’s liking. The good news is that you are always on time. change provider of telephony. But to know if your supplier is the best it is not enough to know their prices, how many calls you can do or how many gigs has your data plan. There are other data. Which fastest mobile network from Spain? Which one offers lower latency? And what about the 5G connection? Where to find the best 5G where you live?
For a long time, the American company okla performs a detailed analysis of the mobile network quality from various countries. Among them, Spain. Its name may not sound familiar to you but surely you know its most popular service, the speed test speed test. Thanks to the data provided by users and their own internal tests, we can get an idea of which phone companies give their customers a higher speed mobile internet, with lower latency or a higher quality 5G than the rest.
And it is that, although in general, the service is usually at par and we look more at the price of the service, the contracted gigabytes or additional services such as pay television or free Netflix, speed is important. And the 5G connection quality. For now offered at the same price as 4G connectivity, something that we must take advantage of while possible.
The fastest mobile network in Spain
Recently, okla has published the results of its analysis of the Spanish mobile networks corresponding to the first three months of 2022. That is, from January to March. In his analysis focused on mobile telephonyoffers several results that can help us decide which provider is best for us.
The first result of this study on the Q1 of 2022 in Spain, has to do with the fastest mobile provider. For this, it has been taken into account average download speed during the first three months of the year. The winner was Movistar, with an average of 52.44 Mbps. In second place, Orange, with 39.35 Mbps. Third, Yoigo, with 28.39 Mbps. And in fourth place, Vodafone, with 26.06 Mbps.
To put the data in perspective, in Q4 2021, the data was somewhat different. Movistar was still in first place with an average speed of 62.67 Mbps. Orange was second again with 51.34 Mbps. In third place, Vodafone, with 45.57 Mbps. And in fourth, Yoigo, with 39.43 Mbps.
This same ranking is repeated if we talk about another parameter that okla calls Consistency Score, what we could call consistency, regularity or stability. In other words, if the average values promised or offered by a mobile network are maintained normally or there are usual drop peaks. Specifically, the study took into account that the minimum lowering speed be 5 Mbps and the upload rate is 1 Mbps. It is recommended to watch streaming content in high definition. The result, in percentage, is 89.4% for Movistar, 82.3% for Orange, 81.2% for Yoigo and, in fourth place, 80% for Vodafone.
The mobile network with the least latency
Another interesting fact is that of latency. The enemy of online players and those who need to make video calls without cuts or other tasks that require immediate response. In this sense, the value of latency, the lower the bettersince it is the delay in the response during the connection of a mobile device with the server it accesses, be it a web page, a messaging app or a video game.
During the first quarter of 2022, Q1, the mobile network with the least latency is Orange, with an average latency of 28 milliseconds. In second place, Vodafone, with 30 milliseconds. Third, Movistar, with 37 milliseconds. And in fourth place, Yoigo, with 43 milliseconds. To get an idea, the ideal ping for a player is 20 milliseconds. That in gaming computers, using cabling and fiber optics. And in mobile telephony, bearing in mind that we currently have 4G LTE connectivity and each time more, 5G connectionfigures close to 20 milliseconds should be reached.
The fastest 5G in Spain
The data we have seen so far takes into account the mobile connections more frequent when consuming content over the internet, that is, 4G and 5G. However, if we stick only to the latest technology, which still continues to be implemented in the country since its inception in 2020, the results differ from the previous ones.
In the first three months of 2022, the faster 5G mobile network was Vodafone, with an average download speed of 192.4 Mbps. It was followed by Orange with 148.29 Mbps, Yoigo with 110.9 Mbps and, in fourth place, Movistar with 96.43 Mbps. If we take a look at the results for Q2, Q3 and Q4 of 2021, although the average speeds tend to differ, the supplier ranking is usually identical.
As a curiosity, the 5G mobile providers that appear in the list offer 5G NSA in the 3.5 GHz band, which although it is not the most desired, it does offer high-speed connections without cuts and with lower latency. On the other hand, they have also begun to operate in the 700 MHz bands, tendered in 2020 and which should boost the quality of the 5G mobile network in Spain, offering more coverage at a lower speed.
Spanish cities with the fastest mobile network
The data offered in this article will be of little or no use to you. if you live in a certain population. That is, there are populations in which the speeds mentioned above are met and others in which it is well below the average. Hence, it is also interesting to know the mobile network coverage of each provider depending on your province and/or population.
With data from March 2022, Movistar provides 5G coverage to 700 towns. By the end of 2022, it should already cover 1,400. And by 2023, 2,400 municipalities should have Movistar’s 5G. For its part, Vodafone aspires to give 5G to 1,000 municipalities, 45% of the population, by the end of 2022. Of these, 133 have more than 50,000 inhabitants, 605 have between 1,000 and 50,000 inhabitants, and 245 have less than 1,000 inhabitants. Orange wants to offer 5G to 1,100 municipalities by the end of 2022. Of these, 140 with less than 1,000 inhabitants, 820 with between 1,000 and 50,000 inhabitants and 140 municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants. For its part, Yoigo’s 5G it reaches 54% of the population through 5G DSS and agreements with Orange.
How are these promises reflected in the results of the analysis of okla? The five fastest cities in average mobile download speed are Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Seville and Zaragoza. As a curiosity, the list is identical if we stick to latency. As a curiosity, in the previous rankings, the only change in order was between Barcelona and Madrid. We will have to see if it is a change in trend or an exception.
If you need to see this data on a map of Spain and check if there is 5G coverage in your town by Movistar, Vodafone, Orange or Yoigo, you can use the coverage map by nperf. To see the information on the map you must choose the operator. And within the map, you can search specific towns and streets.
