The Day of the Dead is a pre-Hispanic tradition, which takes place from the night of October 31 to November 2. It is believed that during the nights of these days, the souls of the deceased return to enjoy the dishes and ornaments that are available in the offering.
When is the offering for the Day of the Dead placed?
Tradition states that the deceased arrive in order depending on the way they died. According to the Ministry of Communications, the altar for the dead must be ready from October 28 for those who have died in a tragic way, due to violence or accidents. October 29 is destined for the drowned; while 30 and 31 are the days dedicated to children without having been baptized, as well as souls alone, forgotten or without relatives.
However, for those who had pets that have already died, tradition indicates that the offering must be placed from October 27.
November 1 is All Saints’ Day, celebrating all those who led an exemplary life as well as children.
Meanwhile, November 2 is the Day of the Dead, the highest festival of its kind in our country, a celebration that begins at dawn with the ringing of church bells and the practice of certain rites, such as decorating tombs. and make altars on the tombstones, which have a great meaning for families because it is thought that they help guide the souls and travel on a good path after death.
