When are they?
Elections in the United States are held every two years, on the first November after the first Monday in November. This year, the elections will take on Tuesday, November 8.
This is how Joe Biden arrives
President Joe Biden comes into these elections at a difficult time in his presidency. His approval rating is 42.1%, according to FiveThirtyEight’s polling average.
The Republican opposition — including Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump — relentlessly criticize record inflation under Biden and his party, by far the biggest concern of voters, according to opinion polls.
The latest polls show that the Republican Party can wrest control of the House of Representatives from the Democrats and, although with a much closer result, it could also keep control of the Senate.
Democrats currently have only a one-vote lead in the upper house thanks to Vice President Kamala Harris. That means losing just one seat could cause Democrats to lose control of the Senate.
The president, however, is optimistic that he will escape the punishment vote and maintain the Democratic majority in both chambers.
Biden said at an event on Friday, November 4, that inflation was his number one priority, underscoring that he took Americans’ economic concerns seriously, as voters go to the polls Tuesday to decide whether he and his Democrats keep control of the United States Congress.
