To find out what kind of music Mexicans listen to, Spotify launched a new musical summary.
The most listened to artist in Mexico was Bad Bunny, and his album “Un verano sin ti” led the playlists.
Genres like norteño and trap slipped into the list of the most listened to.
If you have ever wondered what kind of music Mexicans listen to the most, it is likely that you have not taken a walk through the music platforms. In them, an estimate of views and reproductions is regularly shown according to the artist in question.
The truth is that, on many occasions, it is difficult to recognize precisely where these reproductions come from, even with analytical tools. This is because even the language gaps have fallen, and musicians who sang in Spanish now enjoy billions of views. For this reason, Spotify recently launched a trend based on the musical tastes of people according to the country of origin, something that is also supported by the number of subscribers to the platform.
In the same way, YouTube sought to follow up on this trend in music through apps, something that is becoming more common all over the world and that ends up ousting the rigor of the music industry in physical format.
What music do Mexicans listen to?
Gone are the years in which Mexicans opted for mariachi, boleros and others. Today, it is surprising that many of the artists most listened to by Mexicans do not come from Mexican culture. On the other hand, Spotify and YouTube have sought to generate data based on the likes, hobbies and activity of consumers on their platforms.
To mention Spotify, we have that its most recent trend, which seeks to share a complete profile of its users, designed a personality development exercise, which covers 16 different types.
These are the 16 personalities of the platform:
- The Adventurer (adventurer)
- The Early Adopter (first adopter)
- The Deep Diver (the deep driver)
- The Devotee
- The Replayer (repeater)
- The Connoisseur
- The Maverick (Unconformed)
- The Fan Clubber (the fan club)
- The Top Charter (the top card)
- The Enthusiast
- The Time Traveler (time traveler)
- The Musicologist (the musicologist)
- The Nomad
- The Voyager (traveler)
- The Jukeboxer (turntable)
- The Specialist (specialist)
These personalities defined the rhythm of life and the tastes of Mexicans, however, it is more surprising to know which are the genres most listened to by Mexicans in 2022:
- Mexican music
- Latin pop
- latin trap
- Northern
- Hip hop
- Reggaeton
- corridos
- Pop
- Band
- Tropical
In addition to this, we know that the artist with the most views in Mexico, with a big difference, was Bad Bunny, his latest album also being the one with the most views. Faced with all these samples of Mexican personality, Spotify’s marketing leader in Mexico, Sol Naldi, commented the following: “particularly, this year was very strange because there weren’t many rules yet, so we had the opportunity to rediscover ourselves a bit, find new routines and all this was reflected in the audio, what one listens to in their day to day”.
Spotify in 2022
Throughout 2022, the Swedish company has given a lot to talk about. Its impact on the digital conversation has ranged from precedents in the controversy with Neil Young and the issue of misinformation around Covid-19, through the famous sponsorship with FC Barcelona, managing to give the club an economic break after its work with Rakuten, until the “controversy” where it was speculated that the now ex-soccer player, Gerard Piqué, could use in his sweater Shakira’s name.
However, the work of the brand has not remained in mentions in networks. In the same way that entertainment giants like Netflix, by using a model similar to that of Spotify, have had to adapt to the demands of their business. In this way, it has become one of the leaders in the music market, leaving behind all its competitors, being Apple Music and Amazon Music the most present
In fact, since its founding in 2006, the platform has proven to have a wide variety of music content, audiobooks, podcasts, and more. In 2022 it has become one of the most used apps in the world. In 2021 the number of paid Spotify subscribers reached 180 million around the world for the first time.
These represent half of the monthly active users of the Swedish app, so the number of total subscribers went from 286 million at the beginning of 2020, to 406 million by the end of 2021, according to company data.
