We tell you all about this feature and the devices that use it.
Both the AirPods 2 and the AirPods Pro included an improvement in sound reproduction at the time. This feature is called spatial audio and greatly improves the sound in these headphones. Although it has been available for a while, do you really know what it is and on what devices it can be used?
It provides an amazing experience that you may be missing from these models on AirPods. If you do not understand all its operation and the devices that are compatible with this feature, here you will have all the information. In addition, there are some applications from the App Store with which you can improve the sound experience on your AirPods.
What is spatial audio
Perhaps all the content you play on your mobile is not suitable for this spatial audio, but where it is, it is intended create a sound field between the headphones and the device. And there are several requirements for spatial audio to work. Apart from having the AirPods 2 or the AirPods Pro, both the app and the terminal from which the sound comes must be compatible with this feature.
The truth is that it completely changes the operation of the headphones. Usually, each earbud behaves individually, that is, the left takes care of the channel on that side, while the right takes care of the channel on the right.
This is not the case with spatial audio, since it maintains the sound along with the movement of the terminal screen, taking the source device as a reference and not losing any information in the sound.
Creates a directional source between both points and that generates a more immersive and enveloping environment in your ears, even if you move your head or are in motion. With this technology, Apple promises that they are capable of reproducing Dolby Atmos sound, making as if you were inside the song or the movie.
To start it up with your AirPods, you just have to make one or a couple of adjustments to activate spatial audio and have it available. There are two ways to do it, which we are going to briefly explain to you:
- Connect your AirPods 2 or Pro to iPhone or iPad.
- Enter the Settings app and click on “Bluetooth“.
- Locate your AirPods Pro and click on the “i“blue within a circle.
- Active “Spatial audio“.
The other way is to display the Control Center and hold down the volume bar, until the option “Spatial audio“Please note that AirPods must be previously connected.

Apps that work with spatial audio
Like the source device, the app from which the sound comes must also be compatible. Otherwise, AirPods reproduce at the same level we have always known, so it is also important to take it into account. In the App Store you will find a series of applications that work with this technology.
The number of supported apps is expected to increase over time, because it is still somewhat scarce. However, most are very popular and related to streaming content playback, such as movies, series, documentaries and music. Without a doubt, these apps do not need much presentation, so we show it to you below:

Otherwise, you won’t be able to enjoy spatial audio on your AirPods.
