What is rickettsia and what causes it?
Rickettsiosis covers a group of infectious diseases caused by at least eight species of bacteria of the genus Rickettsia, transmitted by vectors, mainly by fleas, lice and ticks.
Symptoms and treatment
Symptoms of this disease include:
- Headache
- Fever
- Throat with reddish color
- Skin rashes or rash
- Muscle pain
- General discomfort
- Nausea
- Threw up
- Lack of appetite
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
How to prevent it?
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) recommends taking the following measures:
- clean your house
- Check your bed daily
- Fumigate your house at least every 6 months
- Cut the grass in your garden and get rid of fallen leaves from the trees
- Eliminates harmful fauna (rodents)
- Remove trash and junk
- Avoid stacking wood
If you have pets
- Bathe them and take them to the vet for checkups periodically.
- Check that your pets do not have fleas or ticks, if necessary use veterinary soap.
