The sixth chapter of euphoria seems to make something clear: someone will die. It is a risky premise, but definitive. And apparently unavoidable. Whether Nate (Jacob Elordi) ends up fulfilling his violent destiny, Maddy (Alexa Demie) seeks revenge, or Rue (Zendaya) Death. What is evident is that the series is heading for a harsh conclusion and especially, one that will upset the delicate balance of your argument. If until now, Euphoria had been a portrait of generation Z, the series begins a journey towards darker and more aggressive places. Which could completely change what we can expect in season three.
Of course the series It has always been a story that tends to extremes. But in the sixth chapter of euphoria It was evident that this extreme borders on a painful conclusion towards something more violent. It is no longer about the conception of the global drama that sustains the connotation about the shadows of adolescence. The sixth chapter of euphoria made it clear that the group of characters you are about to confront more than just your existential and personal dilemmas. And that in fact, it is likely that in its following episodes, direct violence will reach its main premise.
There are at least two scenarios that could show a new perception of euphoria. Both completely change the way of understanding the series and exceed its invisible limits on a certain domestic quality of the conflicts. Both one possibility and the other link in the version about the fact that euphoriato become a journey to more complicated places. Also that push their characters to an inevitable maturity. That idea could end up transforming the upcoming third season into an entirely new version of the story.
What could be the two visions that close the season of euphoria, dismissed as irregular and not very concise by the specialized press? Any of the following below.
Nate Jacobs and Maddy Pérez: in the middle of a bloody conflict
One of the big arcs of the season has been the love triangle between Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), Nate and Maddy. In chapter five of euphoria, the situation reached its peak in the midst of Rue’s crisis that ended up revealing infidelity. The result was a very strange reaction from Nate, Maddy and Cassie, who included a breakup, threats and even weapons. And a twist that could be the most tense point and the dangerous end of the coming season finale.
Nate’s character has become an unpleasant point of attention in euphoria. In the midst of a tense domestic situation, Nate assumes all the grudge against his parents, in an increasingly irrepressible aggressive behavior. He not only threatened Maddy with a gun, even though he later claimed she had no bullets. He, too, seems willing to express all the anger and frustration pent up throughout a disturbing season, through violence. That, while Maddy talks about teenagers who seemed “perfectly normal” who shoot to death. And of course, with the pressure of his mother (Paula Marshall) on the rarefied family environment.
In one of the central scenes of the sixth chapter of euphoria Nate can be seen listening to her as Marsha complains about her married life. But even more disturbing, it hints that all of Nate’s anger stems from his confrontation with Cal (Eric Dane). Again and again, the argument emphasizes the perception that Nate is most likely about to lose control.
In what sense will it? Will there be a confrontation with Maddy, terrified and perhaps aware of the danger she is in? Rue’s omniscient voice-over insisted during the sixth chapter of euphoria that Nate is afraid of his ex-girlfriend’s loyalty and reactions. And the character has spent a fair amount of time building up all sorts of uncontrollable feelings against Nate. Now with an embarrassing breakup and Cassie taking his place. Where could the series go?
Rue, in the middle of the storm of the sixth chapter of Euphoria
Another possibility that was hinted at in chapter six of euphoria is death of Rue. Of course, this is an idea that accompanies the character and the series since the first season. Either because of the parallels to the original show it’s based on or because the character plummets to hell. The fact is that much of the plot of the sixth chapter of euphoria made it clear that Rue does not want to live. As much as to insist again and again that she not only does not want it, but that she also “is not in her plans” to survive.

Rue’s death — its possibility or perhaps the fact that it has already happened as the great plot trick of the series — is a matter of debate. Such a fact would completely change the dynamic of the series, but it could also explain some of its mysterious points. From Rue’s omniscient voice to her increasingly unique conception of her character. The fact that her (halfway and faltering) recovery from a violent relapse seems like the beginning of the end, could be the announcement of the inevitable. Much more so, when the character went through a good part of the season breaking every emotional bond with those around him.
Now, Rue’s death could make the third season conclusive and retrospective. Is that what we can expect from the series? It only remains to wait.
