The Steam Deck It was planned to debut at the end of 2021, but as you probably already know, its release was delayed until February of this year. Is there a chance it will be delayed again? Well, according to Valve, the whole team is now ready and they will not have any problem with the shipments of this device. In fact, the first models will be shipping to customers in the coming weeks.
Valve published a new statement on the official page of the Steam Deck, where they assure users that they already have everything ready for the premiere of the device.
“Happy New Year! The team is back from vacation and firing on all cylinders. We have some updates for you. First of all, we are on track to release the Steam Deck on time. Despite the global pandemic, supply issues, and distribution issues, it looks like we’ll be able to start shipping some units at the end of February.
In parallel, work and testing for the Steam Deck Verified program has been carried out. Soon you will be able to see Deck Verified status for a growing set of Steam games. We are checking 4 main categories: Input, Fluency, Display, and System Compatibility. It’s also important to give developers the ability to test their games to get that verification, which is why we’ve been shipping developer kits in large numbers and will continue to do so.”
Even if Valve does not rule out one hundred percent that the Steam Deck may be delayed yet again, the chances of this happening are slim and it seems like we have nothing to worry about. At least the people who did buy it will get it in time.
Publisher’s note: It will be interesting to hear some of the community reactions to the Steam Deck, and especially the Switch comparisons. I mean, in the technical section there is nothing to compare, but in terms of design and comfort there could be a couple of discussions about it.
