The Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FCPyS) announced that in 2023 it will offer a postgraduate course dedicated to reggaeton singer Benito Martínez Ocasio.
The class called “Reggaeton as resistance to American colonialism and soft masculinity as sexual capital: the Bad Bunny phenomenon” will be taught by Dr. Ariadna Estévez López, who has a postgraduate degree from Sussex University and a master’s degree from City University, both in the United Kingdom.
Why will UNAM give a postgraduate course in Bad Bunny?
It is not surprising that “El Conejo Malo” caught the attention of the Academy, since his songs that touch on issues such as racism, gentrification and gender violence made him the most listened to artist in 2022 on Spotify.
Classes will be from Monday, January 9 to 23, 2023 and will last 10 hours and 30 minutes. It will be divided into three sessions with a face-to-face session on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There is only room for 15 people.
Agenda of the UNAM course on Bad Bunny
The postgraduate course syllabus is divided into three units:
- History of reggaeton as cultural resistance.
- Masculinity in reggaeton.
- The Bad Bunny phenomenon
With these units, the aim is to study the influence of reggaeton, its evolution and its impact through the singer.
The course will cost 800 pesos for members of the UNAM community and 2,500 pesos for the general public.
