Since Halloween ended, Americans have been crazy about celebrating their big party, with the permission of the 4th of July, even more important than Christmas due to its eminently familiar and culturally specific character. And although few allow changes to the typical Thanksgiving menu, the drink does lend itself to the introduction of international products, such as Spanish wine.
Little by little our wines are making a greater place in the foreign market and we also see more winery references who invest in the United States, where there are great possibilities for expansion, also taking advantage of the recent boom in Spanish gastronomy. And experts like Eric Asimovof The New York Timesthey increasingly take into account Spanish references to recommend to their readers.
Asimov, who has been recommending and writing about wines for more than 20 years, suggests not getting complicated at a party of this type where there are usually many guests and a multitude of dishes with an almost excessive variety. In an idea that we can make our own for Christmas, he advises selecting versatile and energetic wines, of which “do not overwhelm you but refresh you and provide pleasure with whatever you serve.”
And his list includes two Spanish references that also have, in his opinion, very good value for money, whose bottles can be found in the United States for less than 20 dollars. Wines that, of course, we can also get in Spain, or we could even opt for other bottles from wineries that are more difficult to find in the American country.
A 40-hectare winery at the foot of the Iberian System founded in 1989, Viña Zorzal is very aware of the winemaking passion that Antonio Sanz instilled in his three sons, who are now responsible for the winery. They are one of the pioneers in locating old and neglected vineyards to rehabilitate them and make excellent wines, which are enjoyed with pleasure at any time.
It is a wine made with organic grapes, 100% Grenache, very fresh, light and easy to drink. With 13.5% vol., it is perfect for pairing meat dishes, stews, roasts and game.

Celler Credo Miranius (Penedès)
Asimov likes how at Celler Credo they know how to use a grape traditionally used to make sparkling wines such as cava, xarel·loto produce “still wines like this toasted, creamy and tasty white, made with grapes from biodynamic agriculture.”
This grape variety is the axis of the winery that leaves this Miranius a joyful and deep wine, of lively balanced acidity with a fresh finish and aromas of dried lemon peel, green tea leaf and fennel, floral notes, yellow apple and rock salt minerals. With 11.5% vol., it is great to accompany appetizers, cheeses, fish, seafood and pasta.
