Twitter it does not stop at the announcements of new features after the Elon Musk offer. The most recent has to do with the integration of subtitles in the videos. The support account ad that they are already testing a new option to activate the subtitles in videos that offer this functionality.
These will be displayed via the CC button that appears above the content and can be deactivated by pressing it again. According to Twitter, subtitles on videos will be available in the app for iOS and later they will come to Android.
The new implementation comes a few days after the integration of the ALT button that describes the images in the tweet. Twitter has the idea catch up on accessibility by offering features that are already present on other platforms. The idea that we can activate subtitles not only benefits those with hearing loss, but also those who do not master the language of the video or cannot reproduce the sound.
Twitter did not detail the actions necessary to enable subtitles before posting the tweet. In the case of ALT, the task falls on the user, who must write a description of the image of less than 1000 characters.
We assume that the CC will require the video to include a subtitle file in format *. srt or *.sub. Videos with forced subtitles would not have this feature for obvious reasons. It is also not known if they will offer an option of automatic subtitles like YouTube does.
Twitter has innovated more in two weeks than in ten years. Is it Elon Musk’s fault?
The buyout offer by Elon Musk has sparked a flurry of Twitter announcements over the past few days. Apparently, the company wants to demonstrate that it is capable of innovating and for this reason it has already announced a series of novelties such as the edit button, the unmentioningthe ability to view deleted tweets, or Facebook statuses
At first sight, Twitter has revealed more features in two weeks than in the last decade. For many, the social network moves at a slower pace than other services like Facebook or TikTok, something that plans to solve Elon Musk if your purchase offer is approved.
The tycoon wants to own the social network to unlock your potential. If you get it, the first thing you will do is review the content moderation system and then it will start purging the platform of annoying spam bots. Elon Musk also promised authentication for all “real humans” and a simpler verification system.
Although Elon has talked about the benefits of turning Twitter into a private company to power the necessary changes, the fact that he is the one dominating the platform is chilling. The “free speech absolutist” could ruin the social network, just as Mark Zuckerberg has done with Facebook.
For now the board of directors, employees and users will be able to breathe easy. It will be a matter of days before we know if Musk shows his last letter and launches a takeover bid.
