We asked emergency doctors about the worst accidents they have seen.
The worst fear of each man is to break his penis during sex. The good news is that technically you can’t break your penis , because there is no bone in it. But, there are some penile- related injuries that you can experience and that are equally horrifying. While bruises and minor cuts are probably the most common injuries (as well as kicks in the balls), you can also suffer from fractures, cramps, scarring or even skinning.
According to emergency doctors, consulted by Men’s Health, these are just some of the genital accidents that have caused men to fall into emergency rooms. Here we tell you what you can do in case something like this happens to you.
1. PENIS FRACTURE
Doctor Jesse N. Mills, a professor of urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, says the most common injury to the penis is the fracture. “It occurs when a man tears the hard outer layer of his penis during sex, after winking while having an erection, with his partner’s pubic bone. It usually happens when she is on top and pushing down on the erect penis , ”he says.
Dr. Mills says that penile fractures usually occur when either is drunk. That was the case of one of his recent patients. “They were in an episode of passion induced by alcohol, at that time she rose a little more from the account and lowered with great force and little coordination, hitting her partner’s penis with the pelvic bone , a loud sound was heard crunch followed by a howl of pain, ”he recalls.
As Dr. Mills related, the patient’s erect penis had become a “large eggplant.” “There are three divisions in a penis : the two erectile bodies and the urethra (urinary canal),” he explained. “Most penile fractures are soft with a small tear in one of the chambers that requires a few stitches to close the defect and bring the man back to normal in a few weeks. This man tore all the cameras and the only thing that kept his penis attached to his body was his skin. “All the blood from his erection leaked from the break into the space between the skin. Its member quadrupled its size, but lost all rigidity.
Dr. Mills added that the patient’s injury was so severe that he not only fractured his penis , but also tore his urethra completely, so he was unable to urinate. He had to completely rebuild all the chambers and essentially reconnect the torn penis to the base, which was still intact. The patient had to use a urinary catheter for three weeks and was out of service for about six weeks, but recovered completely and was able to have sex again.
The moral: “Vigorous sex is fine, but don’t mix it with alcohol,” says Dr. Mills. “If you get to damage your penis , as embarrassing as it may be, get to an emergency room as soon as possible.”
2. A CALAMBRE
There is nothing more annoying than a calf cramp in the middle of training. Actually, wait, there’s something worse: a cramp in the groin.
When Will, 37, woke up one morning with a large lump in the groin near the base of his penis , he went straight to the doctor. As Will tells, the doctor immediately asked if he was in a relationship, and if the relationship was relatively new.
“I said, ‘yes’,” recalls Will. “He asked if we were having a lot of sex: ‘Oh, yes.’ He told me he had a calanbre in the groin and explained that, particularly with sex in the doggy position, the bones of the woman’s hips can match the soft tissue of the crotch of the man, excessive action can cause swelling, much like getting hit. ”
The doctor suggested that Will refrain from having sex for three days. Then the swelling went down and he returned to normal. But, maybe it wouldn’t have been like that if I hadn’t decided to go to the hospital. “Whenever something seems odd to you, be it swelling, a lump or discoloration, see a doctor,” warns physician Michael P. Zahalsky, a urology specialist, founder of Z Urology in Florida.
3. PRIAPISM
While a prolonged erection (a condition known as priapism) sounds like something that can only be caused by a dose of Viagra or Cialis that has gone wrong, it actually happens more often than you think. Anson, 42, said he once experienced a 20-hour erection as a side effect of taking Trazodone, a prescription medication for anxiety and depression.
“I took the pill one night and woke up with an erection that did not diminish. I tried masturbating and taking a bath, but I had no luck. It was after 10 hours when I decided to go to the emergency room, ”he says.
Doctors gave Anson an injection of pseudoephedrine, a decongestant that finds blood vessels. It didn’t work, so they turned to Plan B: drain the penis . “They used a syringe to get into the vein and just let the blood flow out. They had to do this at the base on both sides of the penis . By this point, my erection had already lasted almost 20 hours. I was worried that I might suffer permanent damage, but it wasn’t like that? Says Anson.
Anson was lucky. “Usually, after 10 hours, it is possible to suffer permanent damage to the erectile tissue. Scars can form and impact the ability to obtain and maintain an erection, ”explains doctor Jamin Brahmbhatt, a urology specialist at Orlando Health . Dr. Brahmbhatt adds (perhaps unnecessarily) that if your erection does not go down after four hours, go to the emergency room.
4. TESTICULAR TORSION
Melinda, 41, was putting passion with her boyfriend in the classic Vaquerita position when he stopped abruptly and screamed in pain.
“I was riding hard and he dislocated a testicle. This went over the penis and it looked like it hurt. However, he just pushed it down and continued. This happened a few more times. It’s so strange, ”Melinda remembers.
The injury was not strange at all, but it was potentially serious. “A ‘dislocated testicle,’ as Melinda describes it, is likely a Testicular Torsion, in which the spermatic cord connected to the testicle can twist, cut off blood flow to the testicle, and cause pain. When he pushed it down again, it probably unscrewed, ”says Dr. Brahmbhatt.
Sometimes, testicular torsion is simply inevitable. “Sometimes, it just happens and there is no medical reason for it,” he adds.
That said, Dr. Zahalsky offers a way to prevent it for athletes, runners, athletes and cyclists: “use shorts or tight underwear so that the testicles are not bouncing on all sides, which can potentially twist them.”
5. SEXUAL RINGS ATTACKED
Homemade sex toys are also responsible for countless visits to emergency rooms.
Dr. Mills, for example, had a patient who was taking medications that made him urinate frequently. So he put an industrial-sized hexagon nut (¾ inches thick, 3 inches in diameter and 2 inches long) around the base of his penis . The nut forced him to urinate less because he compressed his urethra.
“He fell asleep with the nut on, only to wake up with a swollen erection. His penis was still swelling like a grilled bratwurst, trapping blood flow, hurting him more and more, ”explains Dr. Mills.
The patient called 911. If he hadn’t, Mills said, he could have lost his penis . “His skin came off like a horrible sunburn and the tip of the penis was getting dark, a term that surgeons use to describe a limb that has no blood flow, he couldn’t urinate,” he explains.
If a normal sex ring gets stuck, scissors are more than enough. However, the nut required doctors to call the hospital maintenance area. “We had to use an electric saw with steel blades, sparks flew across the room and a nurse had to throw cold water over the saw and the penis so we wouldn’t burn it or the hospital. After an hour, we finally removed it. His member was saved, but he did need a skin graft to cover the dead skin that he lost, ”he adds.
Conclusion: do not put your penis in anything other than to put penis s. And, regardless of anything, don’t fall asleep with anything stuck in your penis . Point.
