Goal announced a new update that will allow you to delete your Threads account without losing your Instagram. The technology company announced an option to deactivate or delete your profile from its new social network without affecting the Instagram account. This was one of the most requested features by users since its launch in July.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, posted the two biggest news coming to Threads today. The first allows deactivate or delete your account independently directly from the application. To access it you just have to touch the top menu, select the option Account and within it choose Deactivate or delete profile.
Doing so will open a new screen offering two options: deactivate or delete your Threads profile. The first is similar to what we find on Instagram or Facebook and consists of temporarily suspending your account. All your posts or interactions with other profiles will be hidden until you log back in.

If you choose to delete your profile, all your posts, likes and followers will be permanently deleted. Meta offers a 30-day grace period, so if you change your mind and want to keep your account, simply log in to confirm your cancellation. If you delete your Threads profile, you will have to wait 90 days to be able to register again with the same Instagram account.
An important observation is that This process does not work in the opposite direction.. Your Threads profile is managed by the Instagram account, so deleting it will delete data from both platforms.
Threads listens to the community and announces improvements
Along with the possibility of deleting your Threads profile, Adam Mosseri confirmed that he has already you will be able to disable the appearance of your threads outside the application. In an attempt to boost the reach of its new social network, Meta allowed posts from accounts with public Threads profiles to appear on Instagram and Facebook. This caused annoyance for many users, since the only way to avoid it was to change your profile to private.
“We heard feedback that you want more control over the experience, so we’re implementing a way to opt-out outside of Threads,” Mosseri said. To activate it you just have to access Setting → Privacy → Suggest posts in other apps. Inside you will find two boxes to prevent them from appearing on Instagram and Facebook.
The head of Instagram confirmed that they will continue working on new options for Threads and asked the community to write their suggestions. Despite the drop in users, Meta has not stopped implementing functions in its social network. Mark Zuckerberg is aware that reaching 1 billion users will take time and the only way to convince people is to offer a solid platform.
Adam Mosseri confessed that Threads’ long-term goal is to become the platform de facto for online conversations. The head of Instagram said that the only way to achieve this is by staying focused on improving the experience and not getting distracted by the hype cycle. “Sometimes Threads is great in the eyes of the world, other times it’s a flop. The truth is always somewhere in between,” he declared.
A few weeks ago it announced the launch of a button to edit threads. Unlike Twitter (X), this option is free and can be used for the first five minutes after you post.
