After the Pixel Slate, the last tablet that the company developed, we had not known plans to update this segment of devices. At least until now, that Google registered a new tablet design with the Japan patent office; with rounded back edges and a screen that takes advantage of the front to a great extent.
If we talk about tablets, there is no doubt that there is a brand and model that dominate this segment of devices with superiority: the Apple iPad. Incontestable and with an increasing variety, but it seems that we are witnessing a progressive increase in the interest of Android manufacturers. The Xiaomi Pad 5 is a sample of this revival, it could also be the future Google tablet. If the patented design materializes, of course.
A design registered in 2019 and approved in September 2021
The process to present new products usually involves different steps: from the development of the plans to the registration of the future device in the relevant consumer agencies. There is also usually an intermediate step, especially if the brand aspires to offer a unique look in its product: the design must be registered in the different patent and trademark offices.
Since the registration of designs must be done well in advance of the sale of the product, encountering the patent registrations reveals succulent clues of what companies are developing. Let’s Go Digital is a medium that is used to diving into trademark registration offices. And create rendered models as spectacular as the one in the possible Google Android tablet.
We must make it clear that Google registered the design in the patent office of Japan in March 20219, but said office authorization was not granted until September 6, 2021. As stated in the patent, Google proposes a tablet with the front almost entirely occupied by the screen; while the rear edges appear heavily curved.
The possible tablet lacks buttons and ports in the original design, Google wanted to register the external appearance of the device before specific functions. According to the interpretation of Let’s Go Digital, created by Giuseppe Spinelli, the tablet would offer soft materials for the back face, it would include a rear glass in the center to create a certain contrast in touch and it would offer a camera with a hole in the screen, something common in the times that run.
Of course, Google has obtained the design registration does not guarantee that you will decide to market an Android tabletBut at least it does create expectations. After all, many users still remember the mythical Nexus 7, one of the best tablets that the system has given. Hopefully Google decides to push Android again on these devices.
