The Netflix series that tells how Elon Musk will send civilians into space in SpaceX’s Inspiration4
Last week SpaceX, Elon Musk’s aerospace company, announced the date for the launch of its first fully civilian mission: Inspiration4. The first fully civilian astronauts will begin their journey into space next Wednesday, September 15. Also, from this very Monday you can enjoy a documentary series on Netflix that follows the training of these civilians, call Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space.
The Netflix documentary series, Countdown: Inspiration4 Space Mission, consists of five episodes of 45 minutes each; but at the moment only two have been released. Next Monday, September 13, chapters three and four will be released. To see the final episode we will have to wait until September 3. This makes us doubt: Can we see images of the mission? We still can’t know; But mission fans would surely be delighted to see selected civilians go to and from space with SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft. Because this is a new milestone in space exploration and in the private space race.
The Netflix Documentary Series
Netflix’s documentary series follows members of SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission; leadered by Jared isaacman, founder and CEO of the payment company Shift4. Together with the experienced pilot they will go to space Chris Sembroski, Lockheed Martin employee and United States Air Force veteran; the scientific Sian Proctor and Hayley arcenaux, St. Jude Physician Assistant and childhood bone cancer survivor.
In fact, Arcenaux will break two records with this trip. And it is that she will be the youngest American to travel to space and, in addition, she will be the first person with a prosthesis to make a trip of this type, as we pointed out in Hypertextual. The young woman has a prosthesis due to the cancer she suffered when she was young; since they had to remove a piece of the femur.
Inspiration4, SpaceX’s civil mission
The four members of the SpaceX mission have been training hard for this trip, as you can see in the Netflix documentary series; but they have also been getting to know each other. And it is very important that astronauts can maintain a calm coexistence; although this trip is shorter than those that are usually made to the International Space Station (ISS) and the time together in space will be shorter.
How long will SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission last? The minimum time Musk will send these four people into space is three days; although it could be as long as five if the crew so wishes. But it probably won’t happen. Eventually, the crew will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere and will land in the water, off the coast of Florida, as explained in a Press release SpaceX.
In short, at the moment very few people can become astronauts, not even being civilians it seems that it will be easy. In this case, the cost of the mission is borne by Isaacman as part of a fundraiser for a hospital that does research on childhood cancer. But space, for the moment, still a whim of billionaires. As the suborbital flights of Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic) and Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin) have shown. Different space flights in many ways; But space travel, after all.
