Microsoft is working on a new solution for protect connected devices under the same account of user. And no, it is not just when using a Windows computer. Through internal tests, they already work in a kind of control center in which security parameters of all the devices from which we have accessed our Microsoft account can be controlled.
Now that we live in an age where productivity is based on interrelated use of all kinds of devices, Microsoft is testing with its Defender application the possibility of controlling and managing risks and threats from and for Android, macOS, iOS and Windows devices.
Grouped security: one account for everything
According to Bleeping Computer and thanks to the information offered on Twitter by Ahmed Walid, the company already works internally in a kind of control center that will allow access to information related to devices that are accessed with the same Microsoft account.
It means that if, for example, we use a PC with an “X” account and at the same time Microsoft services with that same “X” account on iOS, Android, macOS … different parameters can be controlled for protect them from threats, password risk case, phishing…
In the case of mobile systems, it is almost certain that the entire process will be carried out through an application or a kind of client that will allow comprehensive management, far from the individualized protection offered by antivirus as we have known them so far.
Now with this centralized dashboard one person can manage all their devices from one place. A new control center based on Defender that will include, along with antivirus protection, detection of compromised passwords, protection against phishing, identity theft monitoring, security recommendations …
For now the new project is in the internal testing phase and is associated with the code name “Gibraltar”. It is a kind of security suite for all devices associated with the same account, whether they run Windows 11, Windows 10, iOS, Android and macOS. The account administrators will be in charge of adding to the different devices through email invitations or QR codes.
Based on what was discovered by developer Ahmed Walid, you can see what the new security panel will look like Microsoft Defender. It will allow device security alerts, as well as identity and connection monitoring, monitor compromised passwords …
For now it is a version only available internally, so it is still does not have a definite release date. What is clear is that it will first reach the members of the Insider Program and then be released to the generality of users.
