There were rumors about an imminent release. And effectively it has been like that. Apple officially presented this Monday a renewed version of the MacBook Airwhich adopts the acclaimed M3 processor in both its 13-inch and 15-inch versions.
This processor is actually not new. The company debuted it at the end of last year on the MacBook Pro, where it has offered very good results in recent months. This chip has a new CPU with high-performance, low-power cores 15% and 30% more powerful than its predecessor, respectively. Overall, the CPU is 20% more powerful than the M2, according to figures published by Apple.
The new MacBook Air chip too install a renewed GPU which welcomes, among other things, technologies such as Mesh Shading, Dynamic Caching and Ray Tracing via hardware. According to the brand, this GPU is 20% more powerful than that of the M2 and 65% more advanced than that of the M1.
At the time, the company assured that Both the CPU and GPU of the M3 chip were not only more powerful, but also more efficient. In fact, they are able to match the performance of the CPU and GPU present in the M1 while consuming 50% less energy.
This evolution also expands to the Neural Engine of the new MacBook Air, which is 15% more powerful than the M2 and 60% more advanced than the M1 despite maintaining the same number of cores. All this is also added to a memory bandwidth of up to 100 GB/s and a Media Engine that accelerates any work with H.264, HEVC, ProRes, ProRes RAW and AV1.
The new equipment, in addition to being more powerful, also welcomes Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, various improvements related to the microphone system and, for the first time on the MacBook Air since the transition to Apple Silicon, Allows you to connect to two external screens simultaneously.
For the rest, this MacBook Air is the same equipment as until now. The price starts at 1,299 euros in Spain (tax included) and $1,099 in the United States. It can be reserved right now on the brand’s website and the first units will be delivered on Friday, March 8.
