Today we are not talking about patents, prototypes or leaked renders: the new LG Wing is official and arrives as the strangest smartphone of all 2020. It is a device with two screens and a unique turn system on the market. So far the market had never seen something like this and LG wants to make it useful for the user. Its usefulness is quite questionable , but its originality is not. The new LG Wing is a curious smartphone that will hit the market shortly. It is important to emphasize that this is not a patent or supposed design: it is a real smartphone that has just been made official.
Updated 10/29/2020:
The LG Wing has officially arrived in Spain and can be purchased for 1,099 euros (1,286 dollars) starting on November 1. This price includes a 49-inch LG television model 49UN711.AEU valued at about 400 euros. It is a good gift for which no available stock has been commented.
Its price comes as a high PVPr for its hardware, although it is normal knowing all the technology that LG has included in this device. It will not be a success in any market, but there is a small niche of users that will pay for this mobile.
This is the LG Wing, the strange smartphone with a rotating screen
In the market there are many examples of mobile with double screen, but none like this. The LG Wing is a normal smartphone that can be used as such. The key to this device is when you rotate the main screen and place it in a horizontal position. This action makes the device remain in the shape of a ‘T’ and a secondary screen is visible at the bottom.
The main screen has a diagonal of 6.8 inches in FullHD + resolution and the secondary screen reduces its dimensions to 3.9 inches. This secondary screen has a 1.15: 1 aspect ratio, so it is not square, it is slightly taller than it is wide.
What is this secondary screen for? LG has put several examples in which this screen can provide more information. In most cases, the main screen is left in horizontal format as the screen for the main content and it is the secondary screen that offers the possibility of interacting.
The GPS example shows us how the main screen shows all the navigation information and the secondary screen shows the controls for a phone call. In this case it is possible to control both applications and not lose sight of the main application.
It can also be used for games, such as the Asphalt Legends example where you can play normally on the horizontal screen and the secondary screen displays a map that would normally take up space on the main screen.
In the case of YouTube, the secondary screen offers direct control of playback and volume and brightness settings. These are always visible, but the usefulness of this system begins to be questioned when you have volume buttons on the frame of the device and the playback control on the screen itself if you press only once.
LG has raised several situations in which this secondary screen can be useful, although we believe that they are not so attractive as to buy this device for that alone.
The LG Wing is not just double rotating screen
This device has something very good: it is beautiful and without the secondary screen discovered it goes completely unnoticed. LG has done a great job hiding the secondary screen, because if nobody will know that you have a device that hides a secondary screen inside. The terminal has a very interesting aesthetic and a premium mid-range spec sheet.

Despite having the secondary screen very well hidden, we cannot miss the fact that it weighs 260 grams and has a thickness of more than 1 centimeter.
