Yes, I know that with this late sequels you have to have a minimum of caution and distrust, but with ‘Matrix 4’ it is making it especially difficult for me to contain my enthusiasm and moderate expectations; especially now that it seems that the season has been opened and Promotional material will begin to be released for its premiere at the end of this same 2021.
Time to resurrect
In the framework of CinemaCon, which is being held this week at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, the people of Warner Bros. have finally revealed the official title that the new chapter of the saga will have. This will be none other than ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’; Continuing the tradition of cascading a subtitle that begins with the letter “R” after ‘Reloaded’ and ‘Revolutions’.
But this has not been all. During the event a first trailer has been screened of the feature film directed by Lana Wachowski which, unfortunately, seems to have been solely for the eyes of CinemaCon attendees. Of course, several attendees have been quick to explain what happens in the preview, so we can tell you what awaits us.
This is the trailer for ‘The Matrix: Resurrections’
The trailer begins by showing us a San Francisco city from the near future. In it, Neo – Thomas – finds himself talking to a psychotherapist played by Neil Patrick Harris. It seems that the protagonist once again feels a disconnection with the real world. Neo then says: “I have been having dreams that do not seem like dreams. Am I crazy? To this, the therapist answers:” We do not use that word here.
A series of flashbacks of what happened in the original trilogy circulate on screen to lead to the —re — encounter between Neo and Trinity. Carrie-Ann Moss’s character asks Keanu Reeves if they know anything about each other, but they seem to have no memories of each other.
The trailer continues with the day to day of Neo, who must take two blue pills a day, in the city of San Francisco, all to the rhythm of the song ‘White Rabbit’ by Jefferson Airplane. Then a young Morpheus played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II appears offering Neo a blue and a red pill, and blurting out a forceful “Time to fly.” Then, a woman with blue hair pushes Neo through a mirror and shows him the reality of the Matrix.
From here, a montage sequence shows the characteristic action of the saga, with Neo training in the dojo and Trinity beating policemen, and elements known as the pods or the dreaded agents. The end of the party comes from the hand of Neo, who stops a group of bullets with his mind and ends up finishing the play deflecting a missile into a helicopter.
I don’t know about you, but this description has sounded like blessed glory to me. Yes, I understand that it may seem like a late remake of what was seen in the original ‘Matrix’, but something tells me that there are tons of secrets kept and that this will not stop being a first act that leads to a completely new adventure and that, hopefully, will delight those of us who have fully enjoyed it for more than twenty years.
‘The Matrix: Resurrections’ to premiere simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max next December 22th of this same 2021.
