Except for the 10 Gbps of fiber speed that Digi has recently started offering in Spain, the fastest and most extended speed is 1 Gbps, available for years in Vodafone, Orange, Yoigo and Movistar, although lately it is also reaching other cheapest operators.
So it’s time to review the main MVNOs that offer 1,000 Mbps fiber service to compare final prices, conditions, small print and the main differences between operators such as Digi, Jazztel, mobilfree, Adamo and PTV Telecom.
Upload speed, compatible router and other differences between operators
In Spain, the operators have accustomed us to offering symmetrical speeds in their connections. That is, the same speed both when we download data, such as when we climb to the internet to send a video or use cloud services, for example. But although this unwritten rule has been common, with the jump to 1,000 Mbps download, it is more common to see that the upload speed is not always at the same level.
Is it a problem that one gig connections are not symmetrical? Probably not. In reality, the fastest connections are usually aimed at families or businesses, in which several users connect one or more devices to the Internet, with the intention of guaranteeing the high speed on all smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, consoles, computers or other devices that are connected simultaneously. As a whole, many of these connections will require more download speed than upload speed, so an asymmetric speed should not be a problem, although everything will depend on the needs of the user.
In Adamo, for example, we see the possibility of choosing an upload speed between 600 Mbps or 1,000 Mbps for an additional 8 euros, in Fibracat the symmetry is optional, and in Yoigo (and mobilfree) directly chose to set the upload speed at 300 Mbps. In the case of Vodafone, the maximum upload speed in 7.5 million homes is limited to 100 Mbps, since it is a restriction of HFC technology, rather than a restriction of the rate itself. Movistar, Orange, Jazztel and Digi do offer a symmetrical giga.
In order to enjoy speeds of up to 1 Gbps in the case of current customers migrating to the new speeds, the operator will have to check that we have a compatible router, capable of supporting the new speeds and with WiFi 5 or higher that also helps increase the speed with wireless connection.
In addition, the operators have other differences that we will list:
Landline. It is included with calls free to landlines and mobiles on Vodafone and JazztelThe same happens in Digi if you pay a supplement of three euros per month, in Orange it costs one euro if you also want unlimited calls without hours to mobiles, in Movistar calls to mobiles are limited to non-business hours during the week, and in Yoigo / mobilfree They are limited to 60 minutes to mobiles.
TV. It is included by default in Movistar and some Vodafone and Orange rates. Yoigo does not offer a television service comparable to that of its rivals, PTV and mobilfree offer a modest alternative, while Jazztel, Digi and Adamo are incompatible with this service.
Permanence. Movistar It is the only operator that does not require any minimum permanence while its rivals, although they do not have permanence with a specific rate or speed, do require a minimum commitment with the operator. It will be 12 months in Vodafone, Orange, Jazztel, mobilfree, Adamo and PTV, while Digi reduces the stay to three months.
Rates with 1,000 Mbps fiber
If you are one of those who prefer to contract fiber independently, the options with speeds of 1 Gbps are limited to the following:
Regarding the price of access to the combined fiber and mobile, Digi will be the operator cheaper, followed by Adamo / PTV and Jazztel. For families, the 40 GB shared between three lines of mobilfree may also be of interest. The conditions of all rates and final prices, are as summarized in the following comparative graph:
