Dolphin, the fourth model launched by the Chinese manufacturer in the Mexican market, complements an offer made up of the SUVs, Tang and Yuan, and the Han sedan.
Platform and autonomy
Stella Li, executive vice president of BYD Company Limited and president of BYD Americas, detailed during the presentation that Dolphin is mounted on a platform called e-platform 3.0, which was developed specifically for electric vehicles.
This platform supports 3,000 charge cycles, equivalent to traveling up to 1.5 million kilometers.
Globally there are three versions of Dolphin. The intermediate arrives in Mexico, equipped with a 45 kW/hour battery, with a range of between 405 to 450 kilometers, depending on driving habits, and with a power of 70 kW, equivalent to 93.8 hp.
A karaoke system
Dolphin is equipped with a five-inch digital instrument cluster, synthetic leather upholstery, a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, wired Apple CarPlay support, and wireless Android Auto.
Gustavo Lara, director of Marketing and Communication at BYD, detailed during the presentation of the model that it is equipped with a karaoke system: an application that allows you to search for songs through a voice command. The lyrics are displayed on the screen and the microphones, which can be purchased separately, connect to the sound system via Bluetooth.
In terms of safety, the model has six airbags, ABS brakes, electronic stability control, pre-collision sensor and adaptive cruise control, as well as a 360 camera.
BYD Dolphin is the brand’s first model to adopt the Ocean Aesthetics design language. It was not originally planned to reach the Mexican market this year, however, the Chinese manufacturer decided to launch it to compete in one of the most competitive segments of the market, that of subcompacts.
The Seal model, also inspired by the Ocean Aesthetics series, will soon arrive on the Mexican market.
BYD arrived in Mexico last November with the goal of selling 5,000 units in 2023. So far, it has sold around 1,000 units, according to data from the brand’s sales area.
