For irregular rhythm notification Apple worked with Stanford Medicine to conduct the Apple Heart Study with more than 400,000 participants in the United States, over eight months in 2019 and found that participants used the Apple Watch irregular rhythm notification to demonstrate that a wearable could help them detect atrial fibrillation.
This meant that years later, we heard from countless customers around the world how Apple Watch continued to help them detect potentially dangerous situations with their health.
indicates the vice president.
Atrial fibrillation is an irregular heart rate, often fast. The problem with it is that it is a silent situation for many people and if it is not detected in time, it can lead to complications such as blood clots or heart failure and can be a sign of high blood pressure.
Apple uses the optical sensor on the wrist to take measurements in the background and when it finds a pattern of atrial fibrillation it sends the notification to the user.
“Because we have the consumer in mind, the design of both features is intentionally simple and easy to use and we spend a lot of time getting users to learn how to use them and explaining what AF is and what these tools do and don’t do,” he says. Dr. Desai.
With this in mind, Tim Cook said in 2019 that the focus on health will be Apple’s greatest contribution to humanity and that is why we not only see advances in the development of sensors in the Apple Watch, but also in iPhone applications. and functions as simple as the focus (concentration) on Apple devices or the creation of Apple Fitness + so that users can access high-level training from their devices without having to pay more for an app.
This is achieved thanks to the multidisciplinary work and proactive approach of Apple teams. The VP of Health tells us how they’re collaborating with other Apple teams to develop these features.
“At Apple we work closely with many teams in a multidisciplinary way. Our team helps design and lead product development in conjunction with our design and engineering colleagues. Everything we do at Apple is multidisciplinary, so we work hand-in-hand to make sure that from idea generation to launch, we’re providing the right scientific, clinical, and product sensitivity to make sure users have the best experience and that everything is based on science,” he says.
The focus on the health of the Apple Watch seems to be paying off for the Cupertino company. A study by Counterpoint Research as of March 2022, establishes that the global smartwatch market reached 127 million units in 2021, with Apple Watch having a 30% market share.
“Two things that make me proud is to have brought the ECG app to the world, because it is a symbol of the integration and multidisciplinary collaboration that our teams have and to see it reflected in this feature is very special. And it’s always amazing to see your team excited and very passionate about their work,” concludes Dr. Desai.
Although the electrocardiogram app was available to some users around the world with the Apple Watch 4, today it is already released for the Mexican market. If you want to know more about it and how to access it, We recommend you read this note.
