After years of absence from the video game industry, with the exception of a couple of mobile games, it was revealed last June that Dotemu and Leikir Studio are working on a new game title. Metal slug. However, this installment will not be a traditional sidescroller, but a turn-based strategy RPG, a pretty radical change. Fortunately, those responsible for this project have found an effective way to preserve the frenetic gameplay that characterizes the series.
In a recent interview with 3DJuegos, Aurélien Loos, CEO and co-founder of Leikir Studio, revealed that, although the structure of the gameplay has changed, the focus on fast and entertaining fights is still maintained. Thus, Metal Slug Tactics it will be a tactical game pretty quick, away from the extensive combats that we find in other representatives of the genre. Here’s what Loos had to say about it:
“It is a challenge, to be honest. It’s very, very difficult trying to do something that feels really intense, really fast.
There are a lot of fights, but each of these battles ends very quickly. We don’t want giant maps. We do not have hour-long battles, as for example happens in Fire Emblem, because what we are looking for is something more intense, with a good rhythm of the action. And it is not easy to achieve it… but it is something really fun to do. And I hope it will also be a lot of fun for everyone to play. “
As if that were not enough, Loos has mentioned that each of the characters will be unique, with their own strengths and weaknesses. Similarly, Tactics is inspired by installments like Metal Slug X, so it is likely that close encounters of the third type are common in this title.
Metal Slug Tactics coming to Nintendo Switch and PC sometime next year. You can check out the latest trailer for the game here.
