In April 2022, the kilo of tortillas reached 20.05 pesos, on average, throughout the country. Although in cities like Hermosillo, Sonora, a kilo already costs up to 26 pesos.
Price evolution in the AMLO era
In the first fortnight of March, inflation in Mexico completed a year outside the target range of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) of 3% +/- 1 percentage point.
This phenomenon affects a large part of the world, since the end of confinement due to the COVID pandemic. The rises continue to worsen due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. But how is this affecting the diet of Mexicans?
Here are the prices of food since the arrival of AMLO, according to data from the National System of Information and Integration of Markets of the Ministry of Economy.

- December 3, 2018: 14.33 pesos per kilo, in the national average and 12.86 pesos in Mexico City.
- April 6, 2022: 20.05 pesos per kilo in the national average and 20 pesos in the country’s capital.

seedless lemon price
- December 3, 2018: When Enrique Peña Nieto was just three days after leaving Los Pinos, a kilogram of seedless lemon cost a maximum of 12.80 pesos at the CDMX Central de Abasto. There were even places like Campeche where a kilo was sold for 3.33 pesos. Paradise lost, some would say.
- April 6, 2022: Each kilo is sold for 69 pesos in most of the places surveyed in the Central de Abasto de Iztapalapa, in CDMX, but with maximum prices of 79 pesos. Throughout the country, Yucatan enjoys the lowest price for this fruit, since it is sold at 30 pesos per kilo in its supply center.
