The methods for stealing personal data are becoming more sophisticated, however, it seems that the Spanish are not making things very difficult for cybercriminals. A investigation of NordPass confirms that between the most common passwords in Spain during this 2022 we find the famous “123456”, “barcelona”, “realmadrid” and even “hello”.
NordPass conducts this research on an annual basis. Thus, it collects the most common passwords in the world. In the case of Spain, it seems that pop culture has a big influence when it comes to selecting access pins to our most personal information, and of course, that’s not good news.
The NordPass password list was generated in collaboration with independent investigators and specialists in cybersecurity incidents. A 3 TB database was taken into account for its elaboration. In addition, Thirty countries were analyzed, including Spain, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, the United Kingdom, the United States and more.

The most popular passwords from other Spanish-speaking regions according to NordPass
Spain is not the only sinner when it comes to choosing its passwords. The NordPass study confirms that Mexico is another of the regions where cybersecurity continues to be an issue of little importance to the population. Like the European country, “123456” is crowned in this case as the most common password among Mexicans, although others such as “america”, “mexico” and “123” must also be highlighted among the top 25.
Colombia is another example where “123456” is the most popular password., directly followed by “password” and other variants of the first. In the case of the South American country, the numbers seem to have the greatest relevance, with a large part of these keys being made up of sequences from one to nine and other variations of the style, interspersed by the name of the country and personal names.
Chile is the last Spanish-speaking country on the NordPass list. In this case, the researchers have not been able to complete the batch of 200 passwords that we did find in the others, limiting the 20 most popular. In this case, we find “123456” in the first place againalong with puns like “colocolo”, “chupalo” and personal names like “valentina” or “fernanda”.
How to generate more secure keys
Although the ways of stealing personal information from users are becoming more and more effective, such as the dreaded phishing that you should beware of at all costs, this does not mean that you should make it easy for cybercriminals. Certain password combinations could prevent this from happeningespecially when you combine it with methods such as two-factor authentication, currently available on most platforms.
If you want to generate quality passwords that are difficult to break, NordPass offers a free tool call Password Generator. Here you can customize the types of characters it should contain, such as uppercase, lowercase, digits, or symbols.
