The OCU has published in its magazine Compra Maestra for the month of January the results of a macro survey answered by more than 5,000 of its membersevaluating Spanish supermarkets and verifying the differences of almost 40 different chains.
Although the top three is occupied by Hipercor, El Corte Inglés and Aldi, The truth is that the chains most valued by their users are regional options such as Esclat, Bonpreu and Plusfrésc. However, at the national level, no supermarket or hypermarket suspends the judgment of its users, although we do find certain evaluations that can be shocking.
This is the case of Mercadona, a chain with a very strong national presence (more than 1,600 establishments) and with a very large market share (25%), which despite this has a suspense and some low marks within the OCU analysis.
Although there are hardly any failures in the entire list of the OCU, the chain directed by Juan Roig does (by the minimum) in some of the categories that the OCU values, while in other sections it also gets a bad grade compared to the rest of the group.
On the other hand, it wins (and by far) in another couple of categories that the OCU values, such as the white label assortment and its availability, where Mercadona presents the best valuation of the 39 chains analyzedsurpassing chains such as Hipercor or El Corte Inglés by several points.
This does not mean that there are flaws in the evaluation of the Valencian chain, since OCU users suspend Mercadona when talking about Promotions and discountsWell, here is the only suspense, since only 49% of users are satisfied in this regard with the Levantine company.
