To celebrate childhoods, the Government of Mexico City prepares the Girls and Boys Festival for next Sunday April 30th. It is a free event that will have a large number of activities and that will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Zócalo.
According to the capital’s Ministry of the Interior, the festival takes place with the objective of guaranteeing the rights of girls and boys who live and visit Mexico City.
“This is going to be done within the framework of a vision of rights: rights of girls, boys, adolescents; and rights to recreation, culture and leisure”, argued the dependency.
For its part, the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City reported that the next event will resume the Mexican games that were presented in Summer Fun in 2022.
“We are going to have snakes and ladders, a plane, a spring and many board games. And also, in matters of literature, because this year we are going to have literature, science, sports, music, and performing arts, we have a Book Fair where we are going to hand out more than 30,000 free copies for girls and boys; There will be book launches. We are going to do science with the mobile planetarium that SECTEI has”, reported Claudia Curiel, head of the Ministry of Culture.
According to what was declared by the head of Culture, the insistence on traditional games has the objective “that children do something different from the activities of the digital world or television”.
What activities will there be at the 2023 Girls and Boys Festival?
For the event to be of the quality that girls and boys deserve, a toy library will be installed with educational games and activities, as well as two wakes, one with games such as the little plane, rope jump, spring, burned, enchanted and stop, and another with traditional board games such as snakes and ladders, lottery, pirinola, Chinese checkers, Chinese chopsticks, jenga, balero, yoyo, marbles, matatena and spinning top; a third velaria will have a circus show and children’s karaoke, as well as a cooperative with Mexican sweets, fresh waters and ice cream.
Additionally, a Children’s Book Fair will be installed in which books will be presented, there will be storytelling and 30,000 copies will be given away.
From 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the main stage the concerts of Perr’s Pawseither; Tricycle Circus Band with a show of rhythmic fusions and circus arts; and Yucatan A Go Goa band from Mexico City that had its beginnings in surf, rock and grunge punk, but now performs children’s songs, including their classic Pollito.
Likewise, a space is contemplated so that those celebrated can learn more about outer space through projections, as well as a space to promote sports activities. For the latter, the Girls and Boys Festival will have a space to play soccer and practice rappelling; It will have trampolines, a boxing ring and games such as tochito, soccer and basketball, and it will install a large track for bicycles, skates and avalanches.
