The Volkswagen ID.4 has been transformed into a true electric 4×4 SUV. The new Volkswagen ID. Xtreme is a concept model created on the basis of the ID.4 in its GTX variant. It has an exterior design, an 82 kWh battery and an all-wheel drive system.
Does the Volkswagen ID.4 have the soul of a 4×4 SUV? The Volkswagen SUV has established itself as one of the most popular electric cars in Europe. And in its GTX variant it brings out its most dynamic and sporty side. However, and in the face of driving away from the asphalt of the big city, the ID.4 is far from offering optimal performance. Or at least we thought so. Volkswagen has shown that the ID.4 can be the basis for an extraordinary electric 4×4 SUV.
As part of the celebration of the ID. Treffen in Locarno (Germany), a new and very interesting conceptual model has been presented. The new Volkswagen ID. XtremeConcept. We are facing a concept car created on the basis of the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX. A fully electric vehicle with a four-wheel drive system and an exterior design ready to face any type of adventure.
The keys to the new Volkswagen ID. XtremeConcept
The design and development process of the new ID. Xtreme has been led by Andreas Reckenwerth, Head of MEB Vehicles at Volkswagen. It is enough to take a quick look at the images published by the German company to discover what the result of the project is. Silke Bagschik, Director of the MEB Product Line, has highlighted the enormous technical potential offered by the SEM platform for battery electric cars.
It is a quickly recognizable model. And it is that it has numerous distinctive features that allow it to move away from the image of a conventional ID.4 or its GTX variant. The ground clearance has been increased. It also launches some new bumpers and some additional front fenders
with which to provide robustness to the whole. Another element that we cannot ignore are the 18-inch alloy wheels.
The roof rack with LED lights and the fully enclosed aluminum bottoms make the ID. Xtreme the perfect companion to get into nature. And if we had the opportunity to go inside, we would be enveloped by a comfortable environment. Alcantara and orange details are scattered throughout the cabin. In addition, the seats have been renewed.
Volkswagen ID. Xtreme Concept, an electric SUV with about 400 hp
Volkswagen notes that the ID. Xtreme not only stands out for its robust and adventurous appearance, but also for the performance of its electric propulsion system. As a result of some adjustments, the power has increased from 220 kW (299 CV) of the ID.4 GTX to reaching 285 kW (388 hp). By equipping an electric motor on each axle, it has an all-wheel drive configuration.
In the bowels of the ID. Xtreme stands a 82 kWh lithium-ion battery
whose main objective is none other than to feed the two engines. Volkswagen has not given details about the benefits and / or autonomy. At the moment we are dealing with a simple design exercise. In the short term there are no plans to expand the ID.4 range with a variant that has a specifically off-road focus.
