Louisiana Representative Mike Johnson won the election to become speaker of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, ending three weeks of chaos that left the House without a leader and exposed Republican divisions.
Republicans chose Johnson, 51, a little-known and deeply conservative lawmaker, after a fight that began after the party’s far right wing ousted then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
