We all have Tupperware and lunch boxes at home, some perhaps already asking for retirement and others that stoically endure the years without a scratch, but what is clear is that they are already part of the basic utensils of any kitchen. Now, do we know use them correctly? The question seems absurd -it’s a container with a lid, it doesn’t have much of a mystery-, and yet there is a way to use them that usually goes unnoticed.
Actually, the idea stems from the mechanism of using other similar containers that many of us already use in our kitchens, especially those of us who have grown up in a culture that pays homage to good butter, in addition to olive oil. Butter dishes, after all, are like a Tupperware that works upside down. And therein lies the crux of the matter.
We normally use airtight, plastic or glass containers as a storage box. It is the most suitable option for transporting spoon and fork meals, with a lot of sauce, small ingredients or liquids, but it is not the most useful when it comes to large foods.
We talk about cakes and pastriesbuns and breads, sandwiches, a potato omelette, quiches or cheese piecesfoods bulky that they tend to be taller and that do not come out so easily from a container in the normal position, because it is not usual to eat them directly by pricking the fork. In this case, it is best to turn it over.
This way it will work like a butter dish, a cheese dish or a cake transporter, whose most common models follow the same design as a regular Tupperware container, but in reverse. The highest space, the one that functions as a box, becomes the lid or cover, like a bellleaving the food on the flattest and thinnest surface that thus becomes a tray or serving plate.
Any taper with a certain height will serve us for these uses if it has the necessary size, although we recommend those with a latch tabs, airtight, and better if they are made of glass; with a bamboo lid/tray We will also have a more ecological and much more beautiful material to serve, especially when we store butter, cheeses or cakes.
