Although these are times to look back and drink from nostalgia, not everything that bathes the past It is worth standing, so some reforms are a lighthouse along the way, to be taken into account.
While hydraulic tiles and retro faucets are an example of this embrace of previous decades, there are many ramshackle kitchens full of possibilities that, no matter how vintage, need a urgent face wash to give itself a new splendor.
This is the case of the kitchen of the artist, art historian and host of the Art Matters podcast Ferren Gipson, who bought in 2020 with her partner, marketing expert Tom Lloyd, a victorian terraced house in the London neighborhood of Peckham.
Indeed, as an old historical relic, this house was a gem but it needed to renovate rooms such as the bathroom, or the kitchen itself. An old room with a design from the 90s, dark and sad thanks to the significant presence of wood, a material that extinguished its possibilities.
The stay, open to dining room, was rethought in all its possibilities. Thus, to renovate the room they wanted to give it an air that was slightly reminiscent of the design of the 60s and 70s.
One of the couple’s best decisions was remove a partial wall and opt for updated Ikea undercounter cabinets with painted wood fronts. On the closets he put brass cabinet pulls from Plank Hardware.
Gain space
As there was more space available in the kitchen thanks to the fact that the boiler and washing machine had been included in the bathroom during the renovation of this room, they were able to have space for install a dishwasher and a microwave.
Likewise, the Fordelaktig kitchen hob from Ikea was also placed on the countertop, which has a integrated extractorwhich gives uniformity and modernity to the space.
In contrast to the Coca-Cola color of the old wood, in the renovation, white is the protagonist, from the furniture to the sink faucet. On the floor, they removed the imitation wood vinyl and installed a terrazzo with brown and black touches.
The curved ceramic With a 3D design installed on one of the walls, it gives a lot of personality to the room, as well as a feeling of verticality that helps emphasize the height of the room.
To finish off and give a different touch, in the kitchen you can see a ceramic collection from British potter Denby, or designer pieces like a brass dish drainer with its rainbow-shaped silicone dish tray from Oyoy of Denmark. On one of the shelves there is also a still life painted by Ferren Gipson herself.

The result is a modern and bright kitchen that has gone from being the vestige of an aesthetic past to be forgotten, to a modernity aligned with the current times.
