“A significant amount of economic resources has been released, it’s not complete yet, is like 50% of what remains to be invested. But it makes it possible to increase the speed of work and achieve it, ”he says in an interview.
The project has had some difficulties, such as locks in an extension of 9 kilometers in the area of Tultitlán and Tultepec, which the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT) resolved, but which allowed the works to begin just a month ago.
The Suburban Train to AIFA is a project of 42 kilometers in total that seeks to connect from the Buenavista station to AIFA in 39 minutesconsidering four existing stations and five new ones.
The investment scheme is mixed, for which a part is executed by Sedena and the SICT, such as the rights of way, the purchase of land and even the trains that the project of the Interurban Train Mexico-Toluca, from which the 10 trains with which the work will start towards the new airport will depart. CAF Mexico is in charge of carrying out the civil works, of 13 kilometers, and the electromechanical work of the new 24 kilometers.
Zurita refers that also some adjustments need to be made on the 10 trains of the Interurbano that will go to the AIFA, since being a little narrower than those of the Suburbano, they require sills in the door area, as well as installations of interior trunks in the cars.
For this reason, the company assures that it is working to finish the civil works before the end of the year. “We will depend on the fact that there is no blockade again, that we have conditions so that the work does not have to be intervened. We will work seven days a week, three shifts, whatever is necessary to meet that date,” said the manager.
The Suburban Train to Huehuetoca is still running
Regarding the extension of the Suburban Train to HuehuetocaZurita said that it is not ruled out, and that once the works are completed, AIFA will insist again to carry out the project, which would increase the flow by up to 110,000 daily passengers.
“Compared to 2019 [la expectativa] was around 33% more passengers; Since we have not recovered the levels of 2019, we are talking about it representing an increase of more or less 80% of what we now move, ”she said.
Zurita sees it as viable for the work to be carried out because there are only two more stations: the final one in Huehuetoca and an intermediate one, which together constitute about 15 kilometers.
