The DC Extended Universe will have its reboot in just over two and a half months. It will happen through Flash, one of the most anticipated films of the franchise. At the same time, one of the most controversial due to the personal inconveniences of ezra miller, which seem to be part of the past. Now, fortunately, the conversation is once again focused on what we can expect in the narrative field. In this sense, it is necessary to explore the figure of a character that could appear in the story: Dark Flash.
In mid-February, Warner Bros. Discovery shared the latest trailer for Flash. In this preview there are two variants of Barry Allen, both played by Ezra Miller and moved by the same factor: his relationship with his mother. One of these versions travels to another time to try to figure out what happened to her. That’s when they cross paths and decide to take a tour. The result? A collapse in the time lines.
It should be remembered that Flash’s ability is so marked that he can travel through time. That’s why he uses it to go to a key moment in his life in another reality. The paradox, in his case, is that that very ability turns against him at some point: in DC mythology, speedsters can only be hunted by another character. This is known as Dark Flash or Black Flash.
Dark Flash: the possible villain in Flash
This figure has various representations in the comics. Therefore, it is not easy to specify which one could appear in Flash. As noted in The Top Comics, each speedster needs their own version of death to be reached by it. Otherwise, it is practically impossible for the traditional version to hunt them down. However, according to the comics, one of its main representatives is named after Walter West.
To delve into this character, we must first talk about another: Wally West, representing a parallel version of Walter West. Both, in their respective times, are Flash. A symmetry that is broken when Walter West cannot save Linda Park, his wife. This transforms his personality until it becomes darker, full of hatred and resentment, although she does not end up being all bad. He continues to apply justice against those who are outside the law.
Their paths cross when Walter, thinking Wally West and his wife are dead, travels to their timeline. What happen? He finds them alive and impersonates Wally. This story is told through the dark flash saga from the comics
Making a symbolic interpretation, this Dark Flash incarnated by Walter West represents death for what happened in his past. Following this logic, it could be believed that the displacement of one by the other is death chasing another sprinter, seen from a more metaphorical than literal place. Could this be depicted in the film?
If it appears, it is most likely the Dark Flash version in Flash be a free interpretation. Although some toys featuring the character have been leaked, so far there are no concrete details in the trailers for the movie. Therefore, perhaps part of the narrative arc of Wally and Walter West will be taken as a reference for a presentation of the antagonistic figure.
This would make sense, considering that Barry Allen’s versions, in their own way, would be representing a story similar to that of Wally and Walter West. Judging by what is presented in the trailer of Flashthe only villain that can be clearly recognized is General Zod (Michael Shannon). But this belongs to another time in the DC Extended Universe. Therefore, one question remains on the table: Will an adversary directly related to Flash emerge?

If the answer is affirmative, it is possible that the origin of Dark Flash is related to the story described above. However, keep in mind that these types of film projects are adaptations of the comics, not exact representations of the comics. Premiere Flash is scheduled for June 16, 2023.
