The second episode of moon knight revealed one of the identities of Steve Grant it was pending: mr knight. This is the suit version, but less aggressive, of the main character of the new series of Disney Plus. The differences, seen what has been seen so far, are not only aesthetic.
Grant, played by oscar isaac, you have access to this ceremonial outfit. But only through his other alter ego, Marc Spector, can he transform into Moon Knight. This duality between the characters is one of the constants during the first episodes, due to the desire to show the scope and complexity of the syndrome suffered by the character, dissociative personality disorder.
Each of these roles, from Moon Knight to Mr. Knight, passing through Steven Grant and Marc Spector, will be alternating during the series, raising the main focus of interest in the narrative: the relationship between them. With regard to the recent presentation of Mr. Knight, when Grant fell into the void and invoked “the suit”, we review the history of this character within the comics.
Who is Mr Knight?
This character has been part of the stories since 2011. Warren Ellis Y Michael Lark they were in charge of conceptualizing and developing Mr. Knight. At first, he was presented as a less conspicuous version of the Moon Knight costume. This changed during the year 2014, when Mr. Knight became a separate character, although he maintained his relationship with Marc Spector.
It is a vigilante oriented to defend Hell’s Kitchen. Although, so far, the version that joins the Marvel series is exploring another side of its history. The difference between Moon Knight and Mr. Knight goes beyond an aesthetic factor; there are also philosophical differences. The first character is much more aggressive, he emerges in situations where all dialogue options have been lost, even propitiating them: he almost always goes to blows.
Instead, Mr. Knight, who first appeared in Secret Avengers #19, has a more collaborative mentality, both with the police and with those around them. Within the comics he has been seen occupying a spy role in some stories. Violence continues to be an option, but not the first when dealing with different issues. That is why he considers himself, rather than a hero, a kind of servant, a masked detective, with a series of special abilities.
moon knight
and the adaptation of Marvel and Disney
Although much remains to be seen, each character begins to have their own identity and grow within the story. Steven Grant is a being who transmits innocence and multiple insecurities, due to his condition. Marc Spector is shown as a much more aggressive character, based on his goal: to protect his wife from the God Khonsu. Meanwhile, the epic versions of him, Moon Knight and Mr. Knight, have distinct differences.
The most obvious have to do with outfits. Moon Knight is shown as an entity that, at times, resembles a mummy, wears a cape and has some moons on his chest that he uses as weapons; instead, Mr. Knight wears a three-piece suit, a more modern version in relation to that of Marc Spector’s other alter ego.. The differences are not limited to this point.
After two moments, the adaptation presented by Disney Plus shows distinct personalities through these characters. Mr. Knight was presented with a humorous role, at the moment without as many skills as the other (although, perhaps, this is more the responsibility of Steven Grant). by his side, Moon Knight is recreated as a character much more violent, bloody, and conscientious in relation to his mission.. The next chapters of the series will continue to build this story and the polarization or not between identities.
