Check out the What If stories that came true in the Marvel Universe.
What if Spider-Man joins the Fantastic Four?
In the first issue of What If…? the story had a rather memorable premise. Spider-Man finally joins a team! Their inclusion turned the Fantastic Four into the Fantastic Five, but it also wreaked havoc on Mister Fantastic’s relationship with the Invisible Woman.
In the main Marvel Universe, Spidey briefly joined this team in Fantastic Four (1961) # 347-349 because he believed that the First Family of Superheroes had perished. Although, Spidey didn’t officially join the team until FF (2011) # 1 in the wake of Human Torch’s apparent death.
When Johnny Storm returned, Spidey happily resigned from his post. Regardless, he is now part of the extended family.
What if the Hulk had the brain of Bruce Banner?
This idea had to be used, yes or yes. The combination of Bruce Banner’s intellect with the strength of the Hulk changed everything we knew about the Emerald Gugant. And it didn’t take long for the main universe comics to follow suit. Banner gained control of his alter ego in Incredible Hulk (1962) # 272, and he was so effective and heroic that he was forgiven for the Hulk’s crimes and invited to rejoin the Avengers.
Although Banner’s control over the Hulk’s body turned out to be temporary, Banner’s personality mixed with the green and gray Hulks in Incredible Hulk (1962) # 377 into a combined entity known as Professor Hulk. Banner’s influence over the Hulk has increased and decreased over the years. But the Hulk has rarely returned to the nearly brainless brute that he used to be.
What if Jane Foster finds Thor’s hammer?
At the time, anyone other than Donald Blake wielding Thor’s hammer seemed like a ridiculous idea. And yet, Jane Foster proved herself worthy of Thor’s power in What If…? # 10. However, he took the name Thordis, rather than continuing with the name Odinson.
Decades later, Thor (2014) # 1 featured Jane as the new Goddess of Thunder, although her true identity was initially hidden. Once she had a taste of the heroic life, Jane couldn’t turn back. Now, she is currently fighting evil as one of the Valkyries. One of the What If stories that came true in the Marvel Universe
What if Doctor Strange was a disciple of Dormammu?
Doctor Stephen Strange is such a positive force in the Marvel Universe that it’s easy to forget that he wasn’t always a selfless man. He originally sought out the Elder to heal his hands and restore his lucrative career as a surgeon. But in this dark reality, Dormammu ordered Baron Mordo to give Strange what he wanted before luring him to join the evil side. Strange’s powers soon outstripped Mordo’s abilities, and he even threatened Dormammu himself. Regardless, this incarnation of “Dark Strange” was ultimately conquered by the Ancient One’s inherent goodness.
In Defenders (2005), Dormammu claimed victory over earth and created a new timeline in which strange was her dedicated follower. However, the original Doctor Strange was unaffected by the change in history, and battled his evil doppelganger before the Defenders finally emerged triumphant.
What if Doctor Doom became a hero?
Victor Von Doom seems like he was always destined to become one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains. But it has certain noble qualities that could be used for good. In this alternate story, Doom tried to take a heroic path and ultimately paid the price. The common element of Doom and its counterpart is arrogance and pride.
When Doom tried to become a hero in 2016’s Infamous Iron Man, he really wanted to change and be a better person. And yet Doom was apparently weakened by this course of action, and his face was horribly scarred again as he fought Hood. Subsequently, Doom once again walked a darker path on the pages of Fantastic Four (2018).
What if the Hulk was a warrior from another world?
In the first ongoing Hulk series, he had traveled to a microscopic realm where he met a K’ai warrior named Jarella. She and the Hulk had a romance that became so powerful that it eventually accompanied him back to his world. However, Jarella’s tragic death prevented them from staying together. In this alternate reality, Jarella lived and the Hulk found himself living comfortably in his world as an alien warrior.
Years later, similar events unfolded at the Planet Hulk event, as the jade goliath was accepted by the inhabitants of his new home after he freed them from the Red King. Gladiator Hulk even found love with Caiera, the Oldstrong. However, the Hulk’s hopes of happiness with his new wife were shattered when Caiera was killed and his world was devastated by a massive explosion. Indicate the World War Hulk event.
What if the Phoenix hadn’t died?
X-Men readers were stunned by the death of Phoenix-possessed Jean Gray in Uncanny X-Men (1963) # 137, and it remains one of the best issues ever published by Marvel. Shortly after, What If…? showed fans a world where Jean Gray was able to escape her fate.
As it turned out in the main Marvel continuity, Jean didn’t die that time and she was never really Phoenix at all! Avengers (1963) # 263 and Fantastic Four (1961) # 286 revealed that Jean and Fénix were separate entities, allowing Jean to return to action in X-Factor (1986) # 1 alongside the other original X-Men. .
