The popularity of this segment has led to the creation of companies focused solely on this market, such as Kavak and OLX Autos, as well as that of some automakers, such as KIA, which within their portfolios offer used units from other companies. From Rosales’ perspective, the decrease in sales does not mean that it will lose appeal among companies.
“When the availability of new vehicles is increasing, there is more attention so that customers can acquire these new vehicles more easily. In terms of operations, they are getting closer with the available inventories to those they had before the pandemic, which we hope can happen towards the beginning of the second half of this year, ”he adds.
Until before the pandemic, little information existed about the pre-owned vehicle market. Rosales estimated that, “with all the difficulties that this implies in the absence of reliable records”, every year there are between 5 and 6 million operations sale of used vehicles in the country.
Until now, the operations within schemes for the sale of pre-owned cars represent about 5% of the totalsince the other large percentage remains informal.
“The bet in pre-owned is to increase their participation in the formal market. We continue to have very low coverage in the formal market and within it what corresponds to operations within dealers, compared to the total used vehicle transactions that occur in the country,” said the representative of the dealers.
