The decision comes from the application of the Evin law, which has prohibited the consumption of alcohol in sports stadiums for more than 32 years, with exceptions.
It is worth mentioning that this legislation allows organizers to request up to ten derogations per year and commune.
But the Olympic event cannot opt for this derogation because it will have “more than 700 competition sessions in 15 days of competition,” says the organizing committee.
Another exception to French law: Alcohol consumption will be allowed in VIP spaces if there is a catering offer.
This distinction has created for years a system with two levels in each sporting event organized in France with capacity for VIP spaces.
“It is the strict application of the French law that authorizes catering services including alcohol service in hospitality spaces governed by the catering law,” recalls the organizing committee.
