“The law not only prohibits operations, but also hormonal therapies and the diagnoses themselves. From now on, many specialists and psychologists could be punished for making homosexual propaganda ”, he highlights.
emigrate or die
Some have already thrown in the towel and others have their bags packed. Maxim, a transsexual who works with the T Center, the main organization to help trans people in Russia, believes that emigration is the best option against depression.
“I have plans to emigrate to Spain. Russia is degrading by forced marches. It is very painful. Those who were thinking of having surgery will have to do the same, ”she said.
Those who do not have enough money can always apply for asylum in Europe for sexual discrimination.
“Living in Russia without medical help is impossible. Homophobia and transphobia have always existed, but we did not expect such aggressiveness. It is clear that they want to channel the aggression of Russians against sexual minorities,” Liubov said.
Couples with a trans partner also fear that their marriages will be declared invalid and the parents will be deprived of parental rights.
“There have already been cases where children were taken from them, since gay marriages are illegal,” says Alioshina.
Both Maxim and Liubov warn that if the situation is already untenable due to social pressure, the passage of the law could push many trans people to commit suicide.
“The percentage of suicides among trans adolescents rises to 40%,” he warns.
