The presidency, through Twitter, reported that Boluarte “provided statements regarding the investigations,” without offering further details.
On his side, the prosecution pointed out earlier that the ruler was called in the “case of the deaths of citizens that occurred during the social mobilizations of December 2022 and January 2023.”
Boluarte arrived at the interrogation strongly escorted, smiling and wearing a light blue suit, according to the images that the accusing body shared on social networks. The appointment was held without demonstrations for or against outside the building in downtown Lima.
She has “all the will to want to help in finding out the truth and in the specific investigation,” her lawyer Kelly Montenegro recently told the newspaper Trade.
However, in the event of a firm accusation, she may not be brought to trial until her mandate ends in 2026, as established by the Constitution.
three crimes
The prosecutor’s office opened an investigation against Boluarte on January 10 for the alleged crimes of “genocide, qualified homicide and serious injuries”.
The authorities are trying to determine their responsibility in the repression of anti-government demonstrations in the Apurímac, La Libertad, Puno, Junín, Arequipa and Ayacucho regions.
In the protests, 54 people have died, including six soldiers who drowned in a river over the weekend when they tried to flee from peasants who attacked them with stones in Puno, the epicenter of the protests.
