No time to die (Cary Fukunaga) will be the last James Bond installment starring Daniel Craig. The British actor took on the role in 2006 and has sustained it to date. In general, the franchise continues to attract attention and the actor found a role with which he will be associated forever. Added to the premiere of the most recent film is uncertainty regarding who will take on the role in the next installments.
The unease regarding the next actor doesn’t just represent genuine curiosity, considering the cinematic lore of the James Bond franchise. There are also a series of associated symbolisms that, perhaps, are taken into account. Whoever plays the next Agent 007 will be the seventh actor to do so throughout the franchise’s history. In addition, it comes at a particular moment, with issues such as racism and the gender agenda much more open in relation to other moments.
Although the James Bond franchise does not have to drink from that environment or even take into account the symbolism, it is valid to suspect that these factors are taken into account within a production of so much tradition within the history of cinema. Regarding the decision on who will replace Daniel Craig, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson gave some clues.
