There were almost 440,000 people who in 2022 carried out the Camino de Santiago on foot or, as such, those who were registered on this Jacobean route that is carried out every year from various parts of Spain —and Europe, even the world.
A large number of pilgrims and people which, evidently, makes certain routes, hostels or stops at certain times of the year as especially crowded, far from the remoteness and meditation that in its day emerged as the Camino de Santiago.
The curious thing, devotion aside, is that in Galicia there are another Camino that can be equally beautiful and it is infinitely less traveled, although it is not a path without difficulty, since there are a large number of unevennesses and the presence of cliffs or small mountains complicates the march.
It is not a novelty, although the BBC has now brought it out to an international audience and you will soon see that there is something ironic about ‘bringing it out’, for we are talking about the one known as Camino dos Faros.
In this case, there is no need to chase Compostela or credentials. Nor do you have to do it completely, but you could take stages that convince you and go jumping from town to town, but it is a good spring or summer plan with which to discover a different Camino.
Known in Galician as O Camiño dos Faros, this hiking route extends for about 200 kilometers between the Coruña towns of Malpica and Finisterre, bordering the sea on what is known as Costa da Morte. The association explains that, to avoid misunderstandings, it should be remembered that even though it is a route along the edge of the sea, it is not a route along the beach.
towns like Niñóns, Muxía, Laxe, Arou, Ponteceso, Nemiña or Camariñas Thus, they form part of this Camino dos Faros, which is divided into eight stages. Throughout the entire route, impressive views. Lighthouses, beaches, cliffs, bird watching areas, rivers… The wildest and overflowing nature of the Costa da Morte at your feet.
