Samsung has taken advantage of IFA 2022 to update your smart home ecosystem. Under the umbrella of SmartThings, which has been present in its catalog for quite some time, the company has announced that from now on all your key products will be integrated into the ecosystem.
This includes appliances, televisions, mobiles and wearables. An announcement that comes a few months after the international launch of Matter, which will be the new standard for connected homes.
The company’s intention to bring together its entire catalog under SmartThings responds to creating a multi-device experience that allows its users to get the most out of the brand, but it has also made special mention of compatibility with other third-party products, although we do not know if it will fully integrate Matter.
Samsung’s new devices will show energy consumption in real time
Furthermore, at this point, the company has also announced an important step in terms of efficiency and sustainability. Samsung is combining SmartThings-based connectivity with energy efficiency built right into its appliances. This means that, unlike other connected home ecosystems, SmartThings Energy will be able to monitor usage patterns and provide real-time data on consumption, facilitating the reduction of energy expenditure.
It is a very significant step given the price instability of the electricity market, and without a doubt, a simple way to know with certainty the consumption of many products, all integrated into the same ecosystem.
The idea is to gradually integrate appliances into SmartThings Energy, although the company has set itself a fairly ambitious brand. By 2023, andl 100% of Samsung Wi-Fi enabled products will offer SmartThings Energy service. And all these will allow to know in real time energy use.
Today, SmartThings Energy works on about 40 Samsung appliances. Including washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners. Also air purifiers, vacuum cleaners, ovens, hoods, cooktops, microwaves, televisions (only those launched from June 2022) and energy meters.
Everything will go hand in hand with SmartThings Home Life, (yes many different names for the same ecosystem), and will centralize all existing SmartThings services. This includes current SmartThings Cooking, Clothing Care, Pet Care, Air Care and Energy. All accessible from mobile. In addition it also includes Galaxy devices, such as the latest Galaxy Watch5 series.
