Starts on Venice Film Festival 2021, one of the most anticipated cinematically speaking, and also with more glamor. The 76th edition of the Mostra begins today until September 11, and in addition to seeing the actresses parade with looks imposing, some of the most anticipated movies of the year.
The Lido Conference Center, an island in the north of Venice, will be the place where we can enjoy the entire Festival.
Parallel Mothers
Mothers Paralelas, by Pedro Almodóvar, is in charge of opening this 76th edition. The director from La Mancha returns to the female universe, to motherhood and family. The film has a stellar cast in which Penelope Cruz, Milena Smit and Aitana Sánchez-Gijón play the three mothers in the story, along with Israel Elejalde the male lead. Julieta Serrano and Rossy de Palma complete this extraordinary cast.
The film tells the story of two women, Janis and Ana, who meet in a hospital room where they are going to give birth. They are both single and accidentally got pregnant. Janis has no regrets and in the hours leading up to the delivery she is abuzz; Ana is a teenager and is scared. The few words that cross in those hours create a very close bond between the two, which chance is in charge of complicating in such a resounding way that it will change the lives of both.
Spencer
Kristen Stewart to become Lady Di in the next biopic about Diana of Wales. The film, which recounts the last days of her marriage to Prince Charles, is one of the most anticipated at the Mostra. Not only to see the transformation of Kristen as Princess Diana, which we have seen in some discreet images, also to see her interpretation (voice, gestures) and wardrobe. Pablo Larraín is the director, also responsible for the biographical film of Jackie Kennedy in Jackie (2016).
Dune
Dennis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the science fiction novel Dune, by Frank Herbert written in 1965. Timothée Chalamet is the protagonist of this new version (the previous one was in 1984, directed by David Lynch) in the role of Paul Atreides, and together to him a cast formed by Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Zendaya, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling or Jason Momoa. The film takes place in two noble houses (the Atreides and the Harkonnen) that fight to control the spice or melange, a drug that transforms the perception of time and that is necessary to travel in space, and that is found on a desert planet called Arrakis, better known as Dune.
The Power of Dog
Ten years later, Jane Campion’s new film (The piano), is an adaptation of the novel by Thomas Savage and stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst. The tape, which we can see in Netflix on December 1, tells the story of wealthy brothers Phil (Cumberbatch) and George (Jesse Plemons). Together they are co-owners of a huge ranch in Montana. When George secretly marries a town widow, Rose (Dunst), Phil, shocked and furious, wage a sadistic and relentless war to completely destroy her using his effeminate son, Peter, as a pawn.
Final Duel
The Ridley Scott film that has returned to unite Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Set in the 14th century, it tells the story of a woman who declared that she had been raped by her husband’s best friend. But since no one believes her, her husband, King Charles VI, decides to challenge his friend, the knight Jean de Carrouges, to a duel to the death. Adaptation of the bestselling book by Eric Jager.
Last night in Soho
Last night in Soho is the terrifying thriller psychological starring Anya Taylor-Joy (Gambit of Gama). A film about a young woman with a passion for fashion, who may mysteriously enter the 1960s, where she meets her idol, an attractive aspiring singer. But the London of the sixties is not what it seems, and time will begin to crumble with grim consequences.
Official Competition

Halloween Kills
The Michael Myers and Laurie Strode saga continues in the next chapter of the Halloween series. David Gordon Green will unleash terror in Venice with the twelfth installment of the saga. Jamie Lee Curtis, who returns to return to his iconic role with which he made his film debut, will also receive one of this year’s honorary Golden Lions in recognition of his entire career. The other will be for Roberto Benigni.
