Infection continues to rise
The 1,627 people with a positive result for monkeypox were confirmed by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference (InDRE).
The registered cases are distributed as follows in the states: Mexico City, 967 infections; Jalisco, 215; State of Mexico, 141; Yucatan, 72; Quintana Roo, 39; Tabasco, 24; Chiapas, 20; New Leon 19; Lower California, 13; Morelos, 12; Puebla, 10 and Veracruz, 10.
They are joined by: Guanajuato, 9; Nayarit, nine; Chihuahua, 8; Sinaloa, 8; Aguascalientes, 6; Coahuila, 6; Hidalgo, 6; Oaxaca, 6; Queretaro, 5; Michoacan, 4; Campeche, 3; Colima, 3; Tamaulipas, 3; Sonora, 3, Zacatecas, 3; Baja California Sur, 1; Guerrero, 1 and San Luis Potosi, 1.
Of the 3,069 identified cases that meet the operational definition, in addition to the 1,627 confirmed cases, 434 are under study. While 1,008 have been ruled out by laboratory diagnosis and no deaths secondary to the disease have been reported.
In terms of distribution by sex, 98 percent of the infections correspond to men; 47.4 percent are between 30 and 39 years old, that is, 772 of the 1,627 confirmed cases; of those under 20 years of age, seven are 19 years old, four are 18 years old, three are 17 years old, one is 16 years old, one is 15 years old, one is 13 years old, one is 12 years old, one is nine years old and one is three years old years.

It should be noted that one case was confirmed in the United States of America by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with a history of staying in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, during its infective (transmission) period. .
This disease is transmitted by direct contact with the secretions of a sick person through mucous membranes or skin lesions, respiratory droplets, and objects contaminated with body fluids. The illness lasts an average of 21 days.
Tips to prevent infections
It can be prevented by avoiding direct physical contact with people who are sick or suspected of having the disease. Sexual contact is an activity that must be taken into account, since it is spread by very close contact between two or more people.
There are practices that can increase the risk of infections, including monkeypox, such as: sex with strangers, dark rooms or sex parties; this, due to the close contact between people during these activities.
Those who care for family members with the disease should wash the sick person’s clothes, towels and sheets and eating utensils with warm water and detergent; also, clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces. In case of presenting symptoms, patients should avoid approaching other people and not go to public places.
