Just over a year ago, DJI officially unveiled its new stabilizer for mobiles, the DJI OM 4, which debuted a magnetic clamping mechanism between the gimbal and the phone. Now comes its successor the DJI OM 5, which inherits that feature, but adds some important improvements at a similar price.
These improvements include a integrated 215 mm extension arm, ShotGuides feature, and ActiveTrack 4.0 target tracking. All this is also accompanied by a lower weight and more compact dimensions. Let’s see it in detail.
Improved stabilization and tracking
Among other features, the DJI OM 5 shares with its predecessor that magnetic design, which attach the phone to the gimbal tightly preventing the phone from falling and facilitating the folding of the stabilizer when we are not using it.
It also inherits the gesture control and the different recording modes of the DJI OM 4 (including Story Mode), but adds the new ShotGuides function, which automatically recognizes the scene and recommends a recording sequence and template, along with short videos with tips on how to get it.
In addition, the brand ensures that it has improved the three-axis stabilization technology and, thanks to ActiveTrack 4.0, the DJI OM 5 now has an optimized tracking algorithm which allows continuous tracking even when the lens turns to the side, turns or is temporarily obstructed by other objects.
But the main novelty of the DJI OM 5 is that it is the first DJI mobile stabilizer that incorporates a integrated 215mm extension arm, allowing you to zoom in for group selfies and easily shoot at more creative angles. Despite that arm, this new gimbal is lighter and more compact than the previous model: it weighs 290g (compared to 390g for the DJI OM 4) and measures 264.5 x 111.1 x 92.3mm (unfolded ).
Price and availability of the DJI OM 5
The DJI OM 5 gimbal is available in Athens Gray (gray) and in a new Sunset White hue. You can now find it on the official DJI website at a official price of 159 euros. At other retailers, such as Amazon, it can be reserved at the same price, but it will go on sale on September 15.
